We don’t like your Internegativity here

Good morning! This is the Morning Chalk Up, your daily roundup of the fittest news in the CrossFit world.

If you read yesterday’s email “The history of the kettlebell,” you might have noticed a slightly longer, in-depth format where we dove into the history of the kettlebell to answer a few common questions. We want to do continue to investigate topics like this, but we need your help. What are you interested in learning more about? If you have an idea, just shoot us a note at[email protected].

They’re challenging you to find or create a random act (or a few) of kindness on the web. Enter the competition by tagging them on Social Media and using the hashtag #TGIFContest. Tag them in your post on Twitter: @RoryMcKernan + @PatSherwood215 or Instagram:ItsRoryMcKernan + Sherwood215. The winner of the best random act of kindness will be announced live on the CrossFit Games Facebook page next Thursday.

The International Weightlifting Federation announced another disqualification from the 2012 Olympics for illegal drug use, this time the bronze medalist. Get this, that’s now six disqualifications in the 94 kg weight class and the gold medal will now be in the hands of the 7th place finisher: Saeid Mohammadpour of Iran. Spam Alert — The hidden dangers behind CrossFit: “shoulder and lower back injuries.” A 15-year-old from CrossFit Hidden Gym is heading to next week’s Youth Pan American Weightlifting Championships in Guatemala. Last year she set the 14-15national youth record with a 180 pound clean and jerk.

How does a 15-year-old 2X Games Athlete Train? — Meet Brooklin Smith. She’s from Texas. Her goal is to make it to the 2019 CrossFit Games and according to her blog she snatches 145 and clean and jerks 175. The other day she published a reflection on her second CrossFit Games. “The thing that sets everyone apart is mental toughness. After last year, that was the biggest thing that I worked on everyday. Pushing myself to that ‘dark place.’ Making myself do workouts that, before, I would not make myself do. Basically training myself to be comfortable with the uncomfortable.”

Affiliate Corner — SoCal’s CrossFit Proper is having a “bring your friend to WOD” week September 26-30, where friends and family can get introduced to CrossFit and WOD (modified) for free with a buddy. Two Pinellas County Sheriffs opened a new affiliate – CrossFit TFB – in Largo, Florida last month.
