“A Real-Life Wonder Woman” by Dustin Tovar

So, what’s it like being married to an elite fitness athlete? Humbling — especially for a macho guy like me who grew up playing sports his whole life and wrestled in college.

Actually, I had a much more successful college athletic career than my wife. That’s right, I was once a more decorated athlete than Stacie Tovar. Boy have things changed.

Over the years, her discipline, dedication and work ethic have only grown. When you mix that with her natural talent, charisma and looks, you have the ingredients for a real-life Wonder Woman, who eats healthier than I do, gets more sleep than I do and trains harder than I do. It’s no surprise that she beats me in workouts almost daily. Oh and let’s not forget, she looks much better than I ever will. She truly does have the body of a Greek goddess.

“71-Year-Old Heads to Belarus for Weightlifting Championship” by Elko Daily Free Press

Most athletes do not pick up a sport in their early 70s but the timing was right for Joyce Aiazzi. After training as a power lifter for over a year, she has been invited to the World Power Lifting Championships in Minsk, Belarus.

Aiazzi has always been a fitness enthusiast and was regularly doing Crossfit when she decided to pick up the sport of power lifting. Since focusing on her power lifting the 71-year-old Aiazzi has seen success at state, regional and national competitions to earn an invitation to compete for a weight lifting title this coming June.
