Rookies to Watch

Good morning and welcome to the Morning Chalk Up. Today’s edition is powered by Red H Nutrition, a veteran owned and operated functional fitness nutrition company with over 10 years experience in the elite fitness industry.

Everyone’s got a story. The stories we have make us who we are, and are important to share, knowing others out there share similar struggles, trials AND triumphs. Army Veteran owner and founder of Red H Nutrition, Katie Danger, wants you to know her “Story Behind the Story”, and how the vision for Red H Nutrition came to fruition.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

GAMES WATCH

WORTH NOTING…The 1RM Snatch event isn’t the first event of the CrossFit Games. We’ve seen this posted a few places the last couple of days so we thought it worth mentioning. The Games event page lists it as the second event on Friday. Dave Castro teased another individual event and whoever correctly guesses it will win a Rogue Castro barbell. WHO’S THAT OVER THERE? That’s Lisa Marquette, the 36-year-old associate chair of Salisbury’s Health and Sports Sciences department, who’s competing at the CrossFit Games. She thought she could sneak away without anyone at Salisbury University noticing. Kari Pearce joins the RockTape team with Bjorgvin Gudmundsson. Jamie Greene practices being a jungle gym ninja.

BE ON THE LOOKOUT… RockTape tells us they’re planning to launch a new product at the CrossFit Games. The only thing they’ve told us is that “soon everyone’s gonna have one in their gym bag.”

CrossFit HQ’s dark horse and rookies to watch for a breakout performance at the Games: 1) Paul Castillo, 2) Tim Paulson, 3) Ricky Garard, 4) Streat Hoerner, 5) Alec Smith — 1) Mekenzie Riley, 2) Kristen Pedri, 3) Chelsey Hughes, 4) Jamie Greene, 5) Bethany Branham. FWIW…Tim Paulson and Jamie Greene are our top rookies to watch.

AROUND MAD TOWN

If you’re in Madison on Monday, everyone who drops into CrossFit Big Dane is going to get a free FITAID Rx after class and a chance to try on the new Reebok Nano 7.0 Weave. These are a few of the bars we’re going to be drinking at this weekend.

CHALK UP AFFILIATES

“We’re helping them with functional skills, things like learning to walk with a backpack…”
Former professional baseball player Lance Cormier and his wife Jamie own Candor CrossFit in Tuscaloosa, AL. Every Friday night from 6:30 – 8:00 PM, a half dozen or so athletes show up for “power hour,” a class designed specifically to help those athletes with special needs.“We’re helping them with functional skills, things like learning to walk with a backpack or being able to stand on their own,” Cormier told Tuscaloosa News. “We have one who wasn’t able to sit up on their own but can do it now. We’re helping them build confidence. We try to do stuff that makes it all about them and scale it to that person. We’re seeing things their parents didn’t know their kids could do. And I think, for all of us, it’s the best part of our week.”
