MONITORING THE MAYHEM
Rich Froning on Taking Second Place (something he hasn’t done at the CrossFit Games since 2010)…”Congratulations especially to Wasatch CrossFit…for winning the Affiliate Cup, you guys are all true champions and it was great to compete against you guys and get to know you better all weekend. Proud of my team and the effort they put in, definitely not the outcome we wanted but it wasn’t because they didn’t put in the work or push hard enough. For those saying I am a poor sport for not smiling on the podium, I will not apologize for who I am. I’m a competitor to my core, I do not like to lose, and I do not hide my emotions well. There’s one thing you can be sure of, we’ll be ready next year.”
Meanwhile Kristin Reffett announces her exit from CrossFit Mayhem and Adrian Conway hints that there may not be a team next year to defend the Affiliate Cup but says “It’s too soon to answer.”
Adrian Conway of Wasatch CrossFit reacting to critics of Rich Froning…“They are COMPETITORS. You want them to look and be happy about second place? Grow up. He and the whole team congratulated us all! Anyone content with losing never truly EXPECTED to win, and winners expect to win. Rich was thinking about ways to improve the team and to not let this happen again immediately, that’s what winners do. I know this will fuel their fire and I hope it does, I can’t say we will have a team to defend the cup next year but if so I’d be honored to throw down with them and the rest of 38 teams that showed up.”

WHAT TO TELL YOUR BUDDY WHO’S HEADING OUT TO BOOTCAMP…
Open Google Maps and find your nearest CrossFit box. U.S. Army recruitersdown in Andalusia, AL are partnering with CrossFit Andalusia to help get new recruits in better shape after they’ve enlisted. Sgt. Stefan Thomas joined the box about a month ago and said ‘dang, this works.’ When Sgt. Thomas approached owner Jason Kelley about working with new recruits he was all in, so now they’re introducing future soldiers to Fran.
At 33, Angi Sanders is learning how to run. And jump. Obese and inactive for most of her life, Sanders didn’t learn these basic movements until she discovered CrossFit in November 2014.
Now she can run, jump, swing a sledgehammer and flip a tire. She’s also lost more than 220 lb. since 2013, but Sanders would much rather to tell you about what she can do, not what she’s lost.
Sanders’ transformation started with gastric-bypass surgery in 2013. At the time she weighed 487 lb. and didn’t know about CrossFit. Sanders was against the surgery, but her employer offered to pay for it, so she decided to give it a try.
