QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Not all girls are made of sugar and spice and everything nice. Some girls are made of adventure and wine and all things fine.” — Unknown

A VACATION ONLY FOR THE FITTEST.

Did you say vacation?

Sure did, and if you’ve got the post-holiday/New Year blues this will cheer you right up.

Meet VoyEdge Rx (see what they did there), a travel experience company dishing up some seriously cool and fit vacations.

Like what?

For starters, six days touring Iceland, doing some ice climbing, snowmobiling, riding ATVs along the black volcanic sands of the coast, soaking in lagoons, and dropping into CrossFit Reykjavik. VoyEdge handles all the logistics, accommodation and travel in country.

Looking for something a little warmer? How does 11 days through Switzerland and Northern Italy hiking the Dolomites, sipping some vino while sitting on the edge of Lake Como and dropping into various boxes around the country.

I’m in.

We thought you might be, but the spots are super limited and you and 50,000 other people are thinking the same thing right about now.

Ciao e buon viaggio!

NOT STANDING ALONE

We reached out to a few of our CrossFit Games friends after news of the Blue Ridge CrossFit scandal broke. Together, they’re sending this message to the female athletes at Blue Ridge and across the globe:

“We stand behind the women of Blue Ridge CrossFit, and female CrossFit athletes in every affiliate across the globe. This kind of behavior is inappropriate and our women shouldn’t have to make the choice between tolerating being objectified or getting in a good workout.” — Brooke Ence, Val Voboril, Margaux Alvarez, Jamie Hagiya, Christy Adkins, Carleen Mathews and Jenn Dancer

Additionally, Brooke Ence said, “No one should assume that whatever joke they  are pulling is ‘ok’ or ‘funny’ if they first do not have consent from the people Involved. NO MATTER how Important that person thinks he or she is. PERIOD. I’ve got your back ladies!”

COFFEE BREAK CONVERSATIONS

What to tell your friend who just forgot she had an inteview today…

Unprepared. If you own an affiliate you might wanna start thinking about the CrossFit Open, which starts in basically five weeks — yikes. What’s your plan to handle the myriad last-minute requests, judges, score cards, score validations, random equipment needs, you name it. Well CrossFit HQ is here to help and put together this survival guide.

THINGS TO…

WIN: A Four-Day Cycling Tour of Tuscany

Cause all you Chalk Uppers are pretty fit and basically no one says no to Italy. Here’s your chance to win a free flight + four day, three night bike ride through the Tuscan countryside. Obvi not CrossFit but keep it varied right?

CIAO BELLA.

DO: AMA With Mattie Rogers

Dive into the front page of the Internet — AKA Reddit — for an AMA with Mattie Rogers. AM what? It stands for “ask me anything” and it’s Reddit’s informal interview process where anyone can ask celebs a question. It kicks off today at 1:00 PM Pacific.

ASK HER A QUESTION.

HEAR: Strength is a Choice

Val Voboril, the mother, teacher, and six-time CrossFit Games athlete is an indomitable force of nature. She joins the Sisu Way podcast to share how she’s teaching kids that they have the power to choose strength, not just physically, but strength through adversity and the tough choices in life.

PR(T)EACH IT VAL.

EAT: Chickpea Celery Soup with Chile-Garlic Oil

This recipe, with celery, onion, chickpeas, and a chicken stock base, is comforting and flavorful and exactly what we want on a Friday night in the depths of January. It’s ready in around 30 minutes, and there are enough dollops and sprinkles going on to keep it from being just, ya know, soup.

POUR A CUP OR A BOWL.

CHALK UP COMMUNITY

  • MARINE FIT — Rockingham CrossFit in Londonderry, NH has become the go-to training spot for Marine recruits heading to boot camp. Last Saturday, 32 of em gathered at the affiliate for one of 13 week-long sessions to prepare recruits. “We do prepare our people for the unknowable, so that constantly varied, high-intensity training prepares our members for anything that they are called to do outside of the gym,” said Gunnery Sgt. Joshua Caruso.
  • THE HEART  OF CROSSFIT ❤ — Co-Owner of CrossFit Corydon in Corydon, IN, Taylor Wallace writes in a Medium blog post, “CrossFit is in the box, not the stadium; it’s in the communities, not the crowds; and further, it’s in the every-day person, not the athlete. 99% of the CrossFit community is there to better themselves for tomorrow, not just to prove themselves today. And at it’s core, that is where the spirit of functional fitness across broad time and modal domains really lives and breathes.”

FEEL GOOD FRIYAY

“So here I am – a 62 year old obese woman who has never worked out in my life, pre-diabetic and facing retirement sitting in a chair. I took a giant leap of faith with the tenacious encouragement of a friend and signed up for a year’s membership at our local box, CrossFit Armati in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. I soon became addicted. After four months I have lost 20 inches and 20 pounds. This amazingly positive and supportive community has encouraged me every step of the way! I can’t wait to see where this journey will take me.” –Kathleen Hills, CrossFit Armati

“What’s Your Fitness Color” by Jean Thorson, CrossFIt Invitcus

Have you ever noticed the different personalities within a group class?

What is it about CrossFit that draws so many different personalities to coincide once they are inside the gym? The other day while coaching a class, this thought came to my head. I was amazed by how different two athletes personalities were but while working out you would have guessed they were the same. What makes CrossFit so unique that an introvert and extrovert, a Type A and a Type B, a high-strung CFO and a kicked back writer can have the same draw to CrossFit?

After class I Googled “Personalities and fitness”, and came across an article on how your personality can help determine your fitness type. The article referenced a book by author Suzanne Brue, MS, The 8 Colors of Fitness.

Brue is the first to create a system based on the principles of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) assessment. Brue took the MBTIs — Introversion (I) or Extraversion (E), Intuition (N) or Sensing (S), Thinking (T) or Feeling (F), and Judging (J) or Perceiving (P) — and reworked them into an easily maneuverable color-coded fitness personality model.

Which Color are You?
