QUOTE OF THE DAY

“What we think, or what we know, or what we believe is, in the end, of little consequence. The only consequence is what we do.” — John Ruskin

THE WORKOUT OF YOUR DREAMS.

No, literally.

Among today’s newest and most ridiculous fitness fads, we’ve got something you can file right alongside naked CrossFit and beer yoga. Introducing “Napercise”.

That’s right. A nap WOD.

Napercise, not to be confused with “sleep yoga” (yep, that’s a thing), is a 60 minute class offered at David Lloyd Clubs in Cardiff, Wales designed for folks that just aren’t getting enough sleep. It promises 45 minutes of uninterrupted rest to “reinvigorate the mind and body and even burn the odd calorie”.

Kinda like kindergarten?

No quite. You’ll get a twin size bed, a cozy blanket, and an eye mask. They’ll bump down the A/C to a perfect sleeping temperature and play some atmospheric music— followed by some light stretching to get you moving again when you wake.

Meh, not for me.

It’s hard to argue the benefits of getting a little extra shut eye, but we’re just not sold. Paying money to sleep in a room full of strangers? Why not just take a nap at home?

At least then you don’t have to wear pants.

COFFEE BREAK CONVERSATIONS

What to tell your friend who’s on the overhead mobility struggle bus…

Been there before. If you’ve tried lots of different stretches and mobility exercises then you’re just like the 99.9% of us who stopped moving like an athlete after high school. Perhaps you should grab a swolemate and give this one a go

What to tell your hubby when you find out you’re preggers…

Sarah Blom walked into BarPath CrossFit in Willmar, MN at 6AM wearing a t-shirt that read “9 Month Partner WOD.” She then proceeded to let the cat out of the bag that Mambo No. 5 was on its way. Just so happens that her husband was also hearing the news for the first time.

VALENTINE’S DAY FTW (for the win)

Valentine’s Day is on Wednesday. So here are four actual pieces of advice to help you PR your Valentine’s Day.

  1. Baking these delicious almond flour chocolate sugar cookies with velvet chocolate frosting for your swolemate.
  2. Going to Albertsons and finding this giant slab of meat in the shape of a heart.
  3. NOT saying any of these seven things to your lifting lady.
  4. If you haven’t bought a gift yet and you live in California, there’s still time to order The Vine Yard’s Valentine’s wine bundle and have it arrive by Wednesday. Use code “DABC” for 20% off.

“Changing Course: No More Nursing Home” by Emily Beers, CrossFit Journal

Looking after her grandchildren was stressful for Marguerite Cesarone.

“I couldn’t get down on the floor to play with them,” she said. “Watching them made for long days.”

At the time, 5-foot-4 Cesarone weighed 220 lb., was experiencing a host of health troubles and was on numerous drugs. She had been taking Vytorin for high cholesterol since 1985 and had been on various blood-pressure medications for 20 years. She had been taking Latanoprost for glaucoma since 2015, Vesicare for an overactive bladder since 2006 and Omeprazole for gastroesophageal reflux disease since 2007.

In 2016, because her rising blood sugar indicated Type 2 diabetes, Cesarone was put on Precose to manage her chronic disease. She stopped taking the medication after a couple of days because she said she didn’t like the way it made her feel.

Cesarone’s daughter and son-in-law kept telling her CrossFit was the answer, but she believed she was too old to make significant health changes.
