7 things you want to know from Day 2.

  1. The last athlete gets the loudest cheers. During Event 4, Heat 2 at the Europe Regional, Sara Massoni struggled through the heavy snatches. She didn’t actually get through half the workout before the time cap. But in yesterday’s heartwarming moment of the day, the only athlete left on the floor got the loudest cheers.

  2. Nine-hundredths of a second is all that separated Annie Thorisdottir and Kristin Holte racing to the finish in Event 4.
  3. Got cals? Travis Williams started out on the Assault Bike like he was shot out of a cannon, holding a 125 RPM pace through the first 20-something cals out of 30.

  4. From fourth to Fifteenth. You can’t win Regionals with one good event but you sure can lose it. Sigurður Þrastarson was sitting in 4th place going into day 2 until he placed second to last in Event 3. Even with two straight event wins, he probably couldn’t rack up enough points to qualify.
  5. Just don’t let go. That’s what Sara Sigmundsdottir did during Event 4. Instead of dropping the barbell between snatches, she carried it on her back and the only athlete to go unbroken.
  6. CrossFit RxLab dedicated their Event 4, 2nd place performance to one of their family members who just lost their battle with cancer. They currently sit in 8th place, 28 points back from 5th place and well within striking distance.
  7. Worth re-watching. If you weren’t up at 7AM Pacific watching the final women’s heat for the day, then you probably missed the pistol battle between Katrin Davidsdottir and Carol-Ann Reason-Thibault.
