QUOTE OF THE DAY

Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try Again. Fail again. Fail better.” — Samuel Beckett

It’s midnight.

My body’s sore.

I’m exhausted. But I can’t sleep.

It’d be easy to start playing the blame game. I should’ve ran more. The elevation killed me. These girls were bigger and could move the weight better.

But I’m the one to blame.

THE DEETS.

  • SUDDENLY COLLAPSED — A coach at CrossFit Hibiscus in New Zealand collapsed and died while working out on vacation in Thailand. He’s survived by his wife and son.
  • DADDY, DAUGHTER WOD — Chase Catalano started working out with his 8-year-old at CrossFit Rukus in Baton Rouge, LA. Now she’s heading to a national competition in Atlanta this summer.

CHALK UP IN 2 MINUTES (a highlight reel around social media of CrossFit pros and average joes)

Michele Letendre on being a female coach of an elite male athlete…“I am so proud to be a part of many athletes journey towards their goals. Lately there’s been a lot of talk about me being the only female coach at the CrossFit Games East Regionals (although I am positive that there were some and are some out here). There is nothing I want more than to be a positive impact on our community. I have worked hard to be where I am and I have never felt gender to be an issue even though I know it can be. But the reality is, for me, it is not. It has never stopped me from doing anything. If there was any
resistance from anyone because of the fact that I am a woman I have simply not seen it, noticed it or just plain ignored. The times that I have thought about It, I just remind myself what I’ve accomplished. To everyone, women or men. You can chose to see things your own way. Do things the way you want to and if you walk your walk, people will respect you and follow suit. Confidence doesn’t come without some level of discomfort but if you can’t convince yourself that it’s possible, others won’t believe it.”

“One Mother’s Journey: From Olympic Trials to CrossFit Games” by Ericka Andersen

When her one-year-old son, Patrick, was crying in the childcare room at Three Kings Athletics, Laura Redman was mid-metcon with her teammate, Elyse Kile. The two are in the middle of intense training for 2018 Central Regionals, where they are representing the gym together in Nashville.

They are both new moms, Laura with 15-month-old Patrick and Elyse with 9-month-old Theo — both attempting the biggest comeback of their lives athletically. They may be post-partum, but that monumental experience has only served to motivate and inspire them to be the best they can be.

“I admire any mother in any sport, out there, still killing it,” said Laura.

She goes to take care of her little boy’s tears, as Elyse continues training. No sooner does Patrick calm down, than Elyse needs to tend to Theo. They swap roles — and though there is a lot of work to be done still today — they are moms first.

“We have this back and forth dynamic and we are there for each other because we understand each other,” said Elyse, referring to limited training time, juggling schedules and managing post-partum elite athletic life.
