Vellner Finishes 19.3 Between Cross-Country Red Eye Flights
Where 19.3, a workout featuring strict handstand push ups, caused plenty of stress for lots of athletes, Patrick Vellner felt the calm that comes with already locking up his spot at the CrossFit Games.
“I’d say it was a damage control workout just based on the [strict handstand push ups], but I’m glad it doesn’t matter,” Vellner said.
Vellner has already locked up a ticket to the CrossFit Games when he won Wodapalooza in January.
But it’s not just the handstand push ups between Vellner and peak performance this week.
“I traveled out west this weekend to visit family so not ideal circumstances to begin with. [I’m] living that red eye jet lag life.”
Even still, he was able to squeeze in two attempts and barely finished the second time in 9:58. “[I] finished, but just barely. There’s really not many places to hide from the [handstand push-ups] in this workout.”
With a 194th place finish on 19.1, a 2nd place on 19.2, and a 265th place on 19.3, Vellner is having a characteristically strong showing in the Open with two weeks remaining, sitting in 49th unofficially.
“I don’t think I have any weak movements left in the Open.”
