Last year, CrossFitter Joel Godett was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Eleven short months later, he raised just shy of $10,000 to help others with the financial barriers of treating the disease.

One big thing: In 2020, Godett created the Type One Takedown with the intention of raising money for an Indianapolis-based diabetes organization, Diabetes Will’s Way, which directs funds to those who can’t afford insulin and healthcare costs associated with Type 1 Diabetes.

  • This year, Godett hopes to double the number of individual registrations, gym participation, and funds raised.
  • On November 6, 2021, gyms across the country will participate in the workout “Sugar Free Granola Bar,” involving 5.7 rounds to represent the target glucose level diabetics shoot for.
  • Currently 40 gyms in eleven states are registered.

Incentives for participation: More participants means more prizes up for grabs.

  • So far, ten sponsors have committed to offering prizes and discounts to participants.
  • Each participant will receive discounts from Fuel for Fire, MUSH overnight oatmeal, RokFit, CrossOver Symmetry, NutriSense and Trifecta Nutrition.
  • The first 300 registrants will also receive Ascent Protein.
  • The gym with the most athletes registered will also receive a Crossover Symmetry kit as well as a case of MUSH Overnight Oats.

Get involved: For athletes looking to get involved, individual registration costs $25. Gym owners can also register their gyms on the Type One Takedown website and encourage their members to participate in the workout on November 6.

  • “My whole goal is to create a movement that is easy to execute for gyms with no cost to the facility itself; a fun way to spice up a regular Saturday at the box; and raises money to support a cause that’s really personal to me.”
