The Historical Ebbs and Flows of CrossFit’s Drug Testing

The CrossFit Games drug testing policy has been brought to the forefront in recent weeks on the backs of two high-profile cases involving individual athletes and positive tests for banned substances. 

Lari Cunha had her initial four year suspension reduced following an appeal on the grounds of a tainted supplement, while Ricky Garard is now eligible to return to competition after serving his four year suspension, and recently made an appearance on the CrossFit Games podcast. 

  • Revelations by Garard on the podcast as well as the successful appeal from Cunha warrant a deeper look at the CrossFit Games Drug Policy and its development over the course of the sports history.
