Tia-Clair Toomey is “Beatable,” says Annie Thorisdottir, but a “Team Effort” is Required

After winning five CrossFit Games titles in a row—and dominating the last three Games by 256, 360 and 195 points respectively—it’s not at all out of line to call Tia-Clair Toomey unbeatable.

But after coming close to dethroning Toomey at last months’ Rogue Invitational in Austin, TX, six-time podium finisher and two-time Games champion Annie Thorisdottir said that, as untouchable as Toomey has been in recent years, “Tia is beatable.”

She added: “Tia is phenomenal. She is the strongest in the field and sets herself apart on the long endurance events, as well, making her almost impossible to beat, but Tia is beatable.”

It Almost Happened at Rogue

Toomey and Thorisdottir battled back-and-forth all weekend in Austin, taking turns leading the competition, right until the seventh and final event, where Toomey led Thorisdottir by just five points. At that point, Thorisdottir had beaten Toomey on three events, while Toomey had taken Iceland’s queen on the other three.

Ultimately, a costly and uncharacteristic mistake for Thorisdottir on the final, bracket-style sprint event, allowed Toomey to finish off the competition with yet another event win.
