Nicole Caroll Defends CrossFit Methodology, Affiliates: “We changed millions of lives”
During a recent affiliate digital town hall, CrossFit’s Director of Training and Education Nicole Caroll laid out what she sees as the main difference between what CrossFit offers the world versus other training programs.
One big thing: Since Eric Roza transitioned from CEO to Chairman of the Board in early February, CrossFit’s titular head is the president of the company Jason Dunlop until a replacement CEO is found. However, Caroll is the most well-known and longest-serving member of CrossFit’s senior leadership who retains a significant amount of influence and loyalty inside the building as well as throughout CrossFit’s vast, global training staff.
- Caroll worked for 15+ years under founder Greg Glassman to bring functional fitness from the fringes into mainstream training methodology as co-director of training.
- She was also front and center during CrossFit’s massive global expansion from 2500 locations in 2010 to 10,000 in 2014.
At CrossFit, transformation is in our DNA.
As affiliates, you know, you use this DNA, call it the methodology, the technology, but you and your coaches you take this DNA and you make it real, you make change happen, you transform lives.
And we hear that word a lot: Transformation, transform 100 million lives, and it can start to become something like a buzz word.
But transformation is a really powerful word and it’s not something that happens easily. If you think about what that word means, it’s the result of consistent courageous action and commitment in a positive direction. And what CrossFit offers is that positive direction.
When someone chooses CrossFit, their courage and commitment are met honestly by something that works. This is so different from the snake oil that was offered in the past, and this is still so incredibly rare in the world today. That efficacy, that real genuine ability to transform, it’s built into our methodology and our ethos.
The methodology: constantly varied functional movements executed at high intensity, meats and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch, no sugar. Increase work capacity across broad time and modal domains, and infinitely applicable and scalable prescription for health and fitness.
And our ethos of hard work, of virtuosity, doing the uncommon uncommonly well in service to measurable, observable, repeatable results.
This potent combination of the methodology and the ethos is what differentiates us from every other fitness program out there and you know this because you and your coaches do it every day.Nicole Caroll
In context: The less than two-minute clip came towards the beginning of a 45-minute long digital town hall attended by CrossFit Affiliates. CrossFit hosts these town halls a handful of times a year to let senior leaders speak directly to affiliate owners and communicate updates.
