Workout Motivation Tips for Winter
It’s hard to leave the house during the cold winter season, and it’s even harder to leave the house to workout when it’s cold, dark, and oh-so snuggly warm inside. We’ve come up with five tips you should put into place, and pull out the motivation that’s buried deep inside your winter jacket.
Block off time on your calendar
Before the start of every week, pull out your calendar and plan out your workouts. Pick a time on every day of the week that you are going to workout. Hold yourself to those appointments. Know that you absolutely must go unless something physically is stopping you: like you have to pick up the kids, or help your parents out. If your gym has a software that allows you to sign in (Hint: Wodify), do so as far in advance as you can!
Remember: bosses don’t cancel on themselves. Be a boss.
Find an accountability buddy
Do you have a partner or friend who loves fitness as much as you? Ask them if they can be your accountability partner! Send that person a text the night before and just tell them you are going to workout at a certain time the next day and then let them do a little happy dance with you once you’ve both completed your workout! Don’t have anyone you can think of? Hello, social media. Throw a post on your Facebook or Instagram story! You might even be motivating someone else to get up and moving.
Find your hype type
What’s a hype type? It is whatever you have to do, that will pump you up. Blast some music while getting ready, it might even be a guilty pleasure playlist. Warm up your car so you know all you have to do is a quick sprint through the cold before being warmed up. Take 30 minutes to drink your coffee in silence before starting the day. Whatever will get you excited to take on the workout - do it!
Set a goal & reward yourself
If you can’t celebrate yourself, who else will? Tell yourself at the start of the week that you will do 3 workouts in the 7-day span. Hit that goal? Grab a Starbucks! Splurge on the post-workout smoothie. Do something that you enjoy and don’t forget to reward yourself.
Remind yourself of your “why”
At the end of the day, the cold weather is really just another excuse to add to the laundry list of “why-not”. But what about your “WHY”. Why did you get started on a fitness journey to begin with? To be a healthier you? To have confidence in yourself physically, mentally, and socially? Stop getting in the way of yourself and go.
