Programming logistics

September 25, 2022 by

Limited equipment does not mean you have to limit your programming.

It is very common to have less rowers, bikes, ropes, sleds, sandbags, etc than your class cap. This does not mean it can’t be programmed for everyone to use in class. It just calls for different logistics.

Example: 6 rowers, class cap 18

A Conditioning section could look like this:

Every 4 minutes for 12 minutes (3 sets): 300/210m row. This should allow 3 people to get through each set which accommodates 18 people. These are hard intervals, EMPTY IT OUT, you should want the rest. Should take no more than 1 minute to complete the meters. It also provides an atmosphere of people cheering each other on.

A MetCon could look like this:

AMREP 5 x 3 sets on 1 minute rest:

30/24 x calorie row

25 x Burpees

Max x Thrusters @95/65 with remaining time in the 5 minutes.

Put people in groups of 3. Partner one begins. At minute 2 partner 2 begins. At minute 4 partner 3 begins. This always allows a 2-minute buffer between people going.

With running clock

Partner 1: 0-5 work, 5-6 rest, 6-11 work, 11-12 rest, 12-17 work

Partner 2: 2-7 work, 7-8 rest, 8-13 work, 13-14 rest, 14-19 work

Partner 3: 4-9 work, 9-10 rest, 10-15 work, 15-16 rest, 16-21 work

The row should take them no longer than 1:40, this might need to be scaled for some to 25/20 or less, just like you would scale anything else in the workout to get the correct stimulus. It might seem complicated at first but people adjust to it. The effort is well worth it, rather than just giving an alternative like running every time this occurs.

These are just a couple of quick examples, the options are endless…at least they should be.

“One size fits all” affiliate programming cannot effectively address issues like this.

You should have programming that can logistically allow everyone to use the equipment you have.
