You just can’t count out 8x CrossFit Games athlete Samantha Briggs. She may be the oldest athlete in the field, but the 2013 Fittest Woman on Earth shows up to compete. In 2018, Briggs withdrew from the Europe Regional due to an elbow injury, instead competing as a Masters athlete at the 2018 Games where she placed second.
While some viewed this as a quiet end to her individual career, Briggs had other plans. She came roaring back in 2019 as one of only two athletes to qualify every way possible. She placed 20th worldwide in the Open, she was the U.K. national champion, she won the Dubai CrossFit Championship, won the Australian CrossFit Championship then won the Reykjavik CrossFit Championship on a team. She went on to finish 17th at the 2020 Games.
Briggs didn’t qualify through the Open this year, but showed up again in Dubai ready to compete, taking third-place overall and earning her 8th individual trip to the Games.
