WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU HIT THE BOX

Alex Vigneault’s Regional status is questionable. Last night, CrossFit posted to Instagram that Vigneault partially tore his peck during during Event 2 training. On making the final call, he said: “Tomorrow in the warm-up area, if I can’t do a ring dip, the 2017 season will be over for me.” You can see how it happened in the final rep of this video. It’s unlikely at this stage that anyone will replace Vigneault.

Even though Jacob Heppner withdrew from the Open, he did all six Regionals workouts in one day. Nike built an LED running track where you can race against yourself or set a pace to match. Brooke Ence on the set of Wonder Woman. CrossFit HQ introduced a new training course, CrossFit Flexibility. Brute Strength is sending five athletes to Regionals as individuals and another eight athletes on Regionals teams.

LEARN: Is the 30-Minute Post WOD Protein Window a Myth?

Ever heard someone say: “If you want to make gains, you need a protein shake straight after your workout – otherwise, all the work you put in will have been wasted”? How much of that is true and how much of it is bro-science?

CHALK UP AFFILIATES

“It was upsetting going into the gym where he died…”
On March 17, 52-year-old David Lumley died suddenly while training at CrossFit Glacier in Washington, UK. The grandfather and airport maintenance technician had been a member of the box for a number of years and he was an avid competitor in local competitions. This weekend, his nephew Craig will be taking his place at Saturday’s Glacier Games and is committing the next year to competing to raise money for cancer research.

“Getting up every morning at 5am for training is hard, but knowing I am doing this for my uncle, gives me the incentive I need to keep going. Me doing it for charity would have meant a lot to him.”

“Having Faith” by Athlete Daily

“This year will be different for me. For the first time, I’m heading into the Open more excited than nervous. God has a plan for me and this journey and I’m 100% confident in that!”

That was the Instagram post Tasia Percevecz wrote on the first day of the 2017 CrossFit Games Open.

Percevecz, who shocked many with her Event 7 world-record finish at Regionals to propel her to 2016’s The CrossFit Games, was fitter and more confident this year. But her individual journey this season, which ended in heartbreaking fashion in the Open’s final week, no one could have seen coming.

After all, this was supposed to be the follow-up to her impressive debut. A former collegiate gymnast, the 26-year old Percevecz held her own as a Games rookie last year, compiling five top-10 finishes and placing 15th overall.
