QUOTE OF THE DAY

“As an adult, I keep pushing my body to stay strong because I’ve never forgotten the rush that the 7-year old me understood as pure joy! Running, swimming,  biking, climbing trees….I will never relinquish that!” — Gemma Mrozinsky, CrossFit Manitowoc

RANSACKED & ROBBED

WHAT HAPPENED?
Looks like thieves are back on the streets and CrossFit Poway is the recent victim in a growing string of unfortunate thefts at CrossFit affiliates. We’ve tracked six stories so far.

Only this time, the thief has upped their game from a petty street crime to full scale identity theft — and no, this has nothing to do the Equifax security breach. But if you have no idea what we’re referencing you might want to start reading this.

THE STORY.
Sometime between June 3 and 5, a woman broke into CrossFit Poway and stole their safe. According to one local story, the box was absolutely ransacked. Speakers, tax documents, checks debit cards, and passports all gone missing.

That’s when the real trouble started, with a trip to Taco Bell and a $700 shopping spree at Walmart. But things didn’t stop there.

She’s been opening accounts, cell phones, and racking up more than $10,000 to their business account.

STILL AT LARGE.
This is the truly unfortunate news. Not only has the thief not been caught, but it appears she’s still been able to spend money. We’re short on details at this point but cops caught her on a security camera (twice) and are offering a $1,000 reward for the public’s help.

WHAT TO TELL YOUR BOSS ON MONDAY…

Out golfing. Ben Bergeron and CrossFit New England are back for round 2 of their Kettlebells4Kids Charity Golf Tournament. On Monday, September 25, they’re taking over Charter Oak County Club in Hudson, MA and there are still a few spots available. This fundraiser is a part of CrossFit New England’s continuous effort to support homeless children. To date, they’ve raised more than $20,000 for Kettlebells4Kids, which has gone to building an indoor fitness space at a local family shelter. Dust off those clubs, grab an Arnold Palmer and a swolemate to play a few holes of golf. Don’t golf or can’t make it? No worries. Come join them for dinner. All proceeds are going to Kettlebells4Kids.

CHALK UP AFFILIATES

“At one point it was like 12, 13 people a day coming to our garage and we had to back it down.”

Back in CrossFit’s early days, finding an affiliate close to your home or work could be hard to come by, especially if you didn’t live near a highly populated metro center in California. So rag tag garage gyms, parks and globo gym takeovers were more common back then.

Out in Burlington, WI one couple opted to start in their garage instead of joining an affiliate. But as more and more people started showing up, they channeled their passion for fitness into a full time job. On July 28, they officially affiliated as CrossFit Repentance and opened the doors to a new space.

——
Brooklyn is getting a new CrossFit affiliate. Gowanus CrossFit just signed a 10-year lease in a 90,000 square foot mix-use building which will include office space, retail and a 10,000 square foot greenhouse on the roof. The affiliate is slated to open next Spring.

CrossFit 133 in Georgetown, MA announced a new fundraiser for CrossFit Vidor in Vidor, TX, who lost everything including their house and cars. Burpees for Vidor will donate one dollar for every burpee completed in one minute.
