When You Don’t Fit in with Your CrossFit Gym’s “New Vision”.
|
The story.
Late Monday night, a local Utah news station broke news that Colossal CrossFit in Lehi, UT had sent an email to a handful of members kicking them out.
In the letter, owner Nicholas Cole wrote:
“Thank you for being a part of Colossal CrossFit. At this time, we have decided to make large changes to our facility, what it represents, who we hope to help in their fitness and an overall change in vision.
In light of many things that we wish to change and better, we felt your future at our facility would not fit in with our new vision and what we want to achieve.”
After receiving numerous poor reviews and comments, the Colossal CrossFit Facebook page was unpublished, but they’re still getting lit up pretty hard on Google reviews.
Ummmm, ok. So why?
We’re scratching our heads a little too, so we reached out to the owner to see if we could find out more.
He responded, but unfortunately said that he wouldn’t be able to get a full detailed statement before we published, but we’ll be sure to publish when we do.
A Colossal mess.
Two members who were kicked out, however — Dani Warren and Katherine Ashby — spoke to a local news station and said they had been members for more than a year and always paid their dues.
Ashby also wrote a Facebook post to her CrossFit friends explaining her absence: “Dear Friends, I am very sorry to tell you that I have been asked to find another gym and no longer attend Colossal CrossFit. I am also sorry to hear that other friends have been “politely kicked out” as well. I have loved all of the ladies that I had the pleasure of working out with. You have truly been a blessing in my life. I will miss you and hope we can find ways to hangout outside the gym.”
The owner did respond to one of their emails and said: “Unfortunately, it’s going to be hard to understand you just don’t fit with the vision.”
We’ll keep you updated.

Burpees for Babies.
|
Catch me up.
When Fiternal CrossFit in Stevens Point, WI heard that member Korryn Dean’s toddler was sick, they did what all good CrossFit gyms do; they planned a fundraiser.
Last weekend, they hosted “Burpees for Broxton,” a community-wide fundraiser for a toddler battling PHACE Syndrome. PHACE is an acronym that refers to a group of abnormal medical findings. When these occur together, doctors can diagnosis PHACE syndrome.
But burpees?
Cute babies are about the only thing that would drive someone to do burpees for fun. And burpees they did. The goal was to raise $10,000 but the community came to play and are well on their way to surpass that amount.
“Doing this for a family so deserving while a little boy benefits from all of us coming together is really what this is all about,” said owner Chelsey Jernberg.
That’s great!
It’s totally great. And baby Broxton’s mom thinks so too.
“It’s just amazing to see this community and how they have been our strength through everything,” Added Broxton mother, Korryn Dean. “The love and support and making sure that we don’t have financial things that we have to worry about as we go through this journey are amazing.”

“An 8-Week Longevity-Based Program For Masters Weightlifters” by Shannon Franklin, Breaking Muscle
I am a weightlifting coach, and my team consists mainly of athletes between the ages of thirty and fifty. Although there are a few outliers, these athletes are the ones who have heeded the call and have developed a passion for weightlifting by training with our team.
As a fifty-year-old athlete myself, I am well aware of the toll that weightlifting can take, having suffered a fairly severe injury myself about four years ago. Since then, I have spent a lot of time reading, learning, and even experimenting on myself to uncover effective exercises, stretches, and mobilization tools to help my team perform better with less pain, better movement, and no injuries.
Although some general short conditioning would normally be included as part of training for this population this article and program will focus on the auxiliary exercises we incorporate and their purpose in this program.
