A State of Emergency

Good morning and welcome to the Morning Chalk Up. Today’s edition was chalked up while saying goodbye to Delta, a retired EOD service dog who was reunited with her owner.

P.S. Serious question: Can you squat 495 pounds + backflip + deadlift 495 pounds (x3) + backflip + bench press 405 pounds (x3)? Because Terron Beckham can.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“I shall pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.” — Stephen Grellet

“How to Start CrossFit,” by CrossFit Journal

Want to change your life with fitness?

You can. All you have to do is start CrossFit.

We’ve made it easy to take the first steps to improved health and fitness. Below, you’ll find everything you need to get going, whether you want to train with a group in an affiliate, work one-on-one with a coach, or start in your garage or basement.

“Want to Motivate Your Team? Know What Makes Them Tick,” by Gameplan-A

According to sports psychology, many factors come into play when motivating your team mates. In the office, you have various tactics at your disposal. You can recall and recite the team’s previous success stories, highlight other outstanding examples, and use illustrations. A bit of provocation might also do the trick.

Every team needs a moderately difficult target to aim for. It needs to be feasible and slightly more ambitious than what the team can actually achieve. Also keep in mind that every player gets motivated in different ways.

A good coach knows how to manage every individual’s emotions right before he or she steps onto the pitch. In the office, one-on-one conversations have the same effect.

CHALK UP AFFILIATES

Albany, GA is under a state of emergency after a tornado tore threw southwest Georgia. Phoebe CrossFit is a hospital-based affiliate surrounded by debris and without power. “Many of our members are out clearing all the debris so that people can get to shelters with power. Other local affiliates have opened their doors to us at no charge so we can still get our workouts in. Just wanted to let you know that Crossfit is truly a family, no matter what box you call home!” — Phoebe CrossFit member Faryn Hackett

FarmBoy CrossFit in Wiggins, CO is offering free classes for the month of January to try and get more people off the couch and moving again.

To end the year, Orange Park CrossFit held a “Glow in the Dark WOD” where members adorned glow-in-the-dark clothes, paint and bracelets for a lights out workout.

25 athletes from CrossFit 100 ran into lake Michigan on January 1 for the polar plunge.
