QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today. Defeat your former self.” — Jordan Peterson

Fitness on the Go

The story.

We’ve all heard of Airbnb, the app your bestie is scouring right now trying to find a last minute place to stay in Madison, WI. But what if you want to work out after being inspired by all that fitness?

Good point.

Cue AirGym, a mobile app that works just like Airbnb but for fitness. Members that have personal fitness areas like garage gyms, outdoor rigs, or private yoga studios can offer use of their space for a nominal fee. Just type in your current zip code, and AirGym gives you a list of fitness choices.

Just a stranger’s garage?

Relax, you’re getting into a stranger’s car and sleeping in a stranger’s bed but you can’t sweat on a stronager’s floor? Come on people.

“We have a gym in our garage and are always looking for other people to come over and work out with us too,” AirGym host Samantha Powell said. She’s hoping it catches on so she can keep meeting new people while getting fitter.

Oh, and also…

Let’s not forget that pretty much this is how CrossFit started. Before opening the first CrossFit box in Santa Cruz, Greg Glassman and early CrossFitters did their WODs where they could, even outside and in garages.

Good point.

So the next time you’re looking to get some fitness in, give AirGym a whirl. Or, if you’ve got a home gym, consider being a host. Just make sure you do your research and are good to go with homeowner’s insurance first.

Coffee Break Conversation

What to tell your cousin when she tells you she’s feeling blue about summer coming to an end pretty soon…

Get outside and get some fitness. A recent study shows that even just moderate exercise four or five times a week will boost your mood. Don’t be afraid to try new things like ice skating, basketball, or frisbee golf. Just have fun and move that body.

“Inside CrossFit’s Smart Move to Double Down in Madison” by Justin LoFranco, Morning Chalk Up

Consider the magnitude of the CrossFit Games — 640 athletes competing in 213 events over four days with more than 70,000 fans. Coupled with the non-permanent nature of CrossFit’s equipment setup and Dave’s endless search for new ways to test athletes, the Games campus needs to be flexible, expandable and adaptable.

CrossFit executives had a choice: either immediately restart the process of putting the Games out to bid or extend with Madison.

One major complaint from last year’s Games were the limited number of events which festival ticket holders had access to.

Out of 13 individual events, five were outside and only three of were watchable at the North Park Stadium, which has seats. The other two were Cyclocross and Run Swim Run which both had very limited viewability.

“We heard everybody loud and clear. One of the frustrations last year was that there were so many events inside the Coliseum,” Bergh said. “We’re going to be doing a lot more events outside this year. The CrossFit Games are not an indoor event.”
