Hidden Camera Found in the Restroom of CrossFit 806
|
The story.
On August 17th, a hidden camera was discovered in the restroom of CrossFit 806 at their Amarillo, TX location. CrossFit 806 also has a second location in Borger, TX.
Dang it.
Allegedly, the camera was planted by a former employee and no arrests have been made yet. But according to Amarillo Police Department Sergeant Carla Burr, an invasion of privacy of this kind can carry a harsh punishment. “If they were recording someone who was naked, it is a state felony,” said Sgt. Burr.
Owner Kyle Cato said that he is fully cooperating with and assisting the investigation and added that he had been advised to make no further statement at this time.
Haven’t we heard this before?
Sadly no. This is actually the third time we’ve reported a story like this. In April, a member at CrossFit Switch discovered a hidden camera in the women’s restroom placed there by the owner. And in July, a member of Rockingham CrossFit discovered a hidden camera, planted by an employee.
SMH. Why is this still a thing?
Seriously. Just stop. Gym owners can and should regularly check their restrooms for anything new and suspicious in there. And members should too, apparently every dang time.
We’ll keep you posted.

FAQ.
A follow-up from Friday’s Story.
|
Since publishing our story Friday on how Greg Glassman is reshaping the CrossFit Games, we’ve been getting a lot of questions. Here are our answers to some of the most common questions we’ve received.
******
Is that story true? Or are you reporting on rumors?
To the best of our knowledge, everything in the story is accurate and true. This came directly from Greg Glassman.
Did you actually talk to Greg Glassman?
Yes. Our Editor in Chief, Justin LoFranco, conducted a phone interview with Glassman on Thursday, a day before the story was published. Glassman is the source of these details.
When does CrossFit HQ plan to make an official announcement?
We don’t know.
What about [insert very specific question about Games, Open, qualifying, etc.]?
Glassman outlined the broad strokes, which included some very specific items (e.g. no more Regionals, fittest in country qualification, sanctioned events, etc.) and his vision for the Games. How all of this plays out on a specific level for every division is in the works and will be outlined when the 2019 CrossFit Games rulebook is released later this year.
Anything else?
Not at this time.

What to tell the open mouth breather next to you at the 5:30 PM CrossFit class…
Excuse me, sir, but you are breathing all wrong. According to Dr. Belissa Vranich, after we turn five or so years old, our breathing changes. When you breath in, does your chest and shoulders rise up to your chin? Does your gut buckle in a little bit on the inhale? Do you huff and puff and generally make a show of yourself during WODS? If so, congratulations: You, too, are doing breathing wrong. But don’t worry. We can train that too.

Amanda Barnhart on Body Changes —“I’m posting this because I want people see that it’s OK for your body to change throughout the year. On the left is a few weeks before regionals when my nutrition had been on point for many months and my training volume was high. On the right is from today, after three weeks off, lots of good food and drinks very little sleep, and life all out of wack. Moral of the story, even athletes competing at the CrossFit Games don’t keep the exact same body composition all year round, so don’t beat yourself up if you have an “off” season. Feeling healthy and happy is what
truly matters! I’m so excited to get back to my routine because that’s what makes me feel my best.”

“1,500 Calories a Day, 50 Miles a Week, 1 Broken Hip,” by Emily Beers, CrossFit Journal
When Amy Williams’ bones began to spontaneously break before she turned 30, she knew it was time for a change.
Her body fat had dropped to just six percent, and her dangerously low bone density contributed first to a broken hand and then to a broken hip.
“I hit rock bottom when I broke my hip from basically just walking,” said Williams, now 34. At the time she had also been trying to get pregnant but had stopped menstruating, which interfered with her ability to conceive.
At CrossFit War Town, Williams focused on upper-body strength work until her hip fully healed. During this time, she gained 10 lb. and increased her body fat to a healthier 12 percent, adding more calorie-dense foods such as sweet potatoes, rice and peanut butter to her diet.
“As soon as I started listening to my coaches, eating real food and not paying attention to my weight, I was also able to get pregnant,” said Williams, who now has two healthy children.
“I never realized how unhealthy I was, and it took CrossFit to show me.”
