PushPress Acquires Heppner’s Ignite, Launching Client-Facing Solutions for Gym Owners

In a call with Jacob Heppner and PushPress CEO Dan Uyemura, they revealed that Ignite has been acquired by PushPress in a cash and stock deal. The acquisition began taking place in late July and will be launched on October 1 as Train by PushPress.

Why it matters: Currently a leading gym management software used by gyms to manage members, reserve classes, update payment information and more, PushPress doesn’t currently have a client-facing app that allows members to log their WOD times and scores, and check upcoming WODs.

  • Until now, PushPress has relied on a suite of third-party integrations with consumer apps like SugarWOD and BTWB to allow gyms to offer client-facing options.
  • This acquisition will give PushPress the ability to be an all-in-one app for gym owners and gym members.

One big thing: PushPress is committed to keeping an open infrastructure so that gym owners can choose which client-facing apps they want to use. Integrating Ignite will be an option, but not mandatory, according to CEO Dan Uyemura.

  • Uyemura: “We believe in an open infrastructure. Gyms can still use other front-end options. We’re going to let owners decide what’s best for them. We’re not disconnecting any existing integrations.”

The rollout: A standalone application will be available October 1 for download, and will be fully integrated into the core PushPress app by early Q1 of 2022.

  • All three original founders of Ignite, Heppner, Mike Baglio and Jim Crowell, will be coming over to work in various capacities at PushPress.
  • Heppner specifically will be helping to manage the transition and integration, then will transition into a part-time product manager for Train by PushPress.

Today’s workout of the week is programmed by six-time Games veteran and legend Josh Bridges. His workout comes straight from his “Pay Him 30 Full Workout” program. Bridges will be taking on fellow CrossFit Games legend Jacob Heppner in a boxing match on Sept. 18.
