Double Mastectomy Doesn’t Stop Shelly Head from PR-ing Grace, Raising $13,000-plus for Breast Cancer
Last year, right after their affiliate raised $6,500 for breast cancer through the annual Barbells for Boobs fundraiser, Brandon Head said to his wife, “Wow, one in eight women will get breast cancer. That means someone from our gym probably will one day.”
“Yeah, that’s really crazy to think about,” replied Shelly Head, who along with her husband, owns Grapevine CrossFit in TX.
At the time, neither was remotely worried that Shelly might be the one.
But just a few months later, when Shelly turned 40, she went for her first mammogram.
“I’m young and I eat really clean. I take health seriously,” said Shelly of her unconcerned attitude going into the mammogram.
But when her results came back, doctors found some tissues of concern. She was then sent for further tests, including a biopsy, that eventually showed she had Grade 1 breast cancer.

Caron’s Case...Not So Cleared?
On Thursday, Sabrina Caron shared on her Instagram account that her case with the French anti-doping agency, Agence Française de Lutte Contre le Dopage (AFLD), had been thrown out. This appears true to a point, but the AFLD told the Morning Chalk Up that the ban itself has been canceled but the case is not closed.
What they said: “The French Anti-Doping Agency (Agence Française de Lutte contre le Dopage) would like to point out that the Agency did not overturn her decision about Sabrina Caron,” wrote Julien Marival, Chargé de communication et des relations médias for the AFLD, in an email.
“The 4 years ban for use of a prohibited substance notified on 28 November 2020 has been canceled by the French Council of State (Conseil d’Etat) for procedural reasons.”
“The Sabrina Caron case is not closed and our Sanction commission will soon be held to decide on further action.”
One big thing: This only adds intrigue to what is already a slightly bizarre situation, starting with the fact that a 2019 CrossFit Games athlete tested positive for a SARM at an official CrossFit event more than two years ago and CrossFit only found out about it after Morning Chalk Up reached out for comment a couple of weeks ago.
Caron would go on to compete in the 2020 CrossFit Open, 2021 CrossFit Open, and the 2021 Quarterfinals where she finished 75th.
It’s unclear where exactly things go from here other than the AFLED will meet again to discuss further action. Once we know, you’ll know.
