Good morning. It’s Friday, July 1, and this is your Morning Chalk Up. We just got back from San Francisco a couple hours ago, driving through the night after catching another great WOD at United Barbell. Did we miss something? Send us a tip at tips@morningchalkup.com.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
“I don’t think you’re ever there. You never arrive, but if you do, you might as well quit because you’re already there. Can’t get any better. And as players, if you ever have that moment — you should never have that moment. You’re always trying to get better.” – Tiger Woods
THE COMPETITION FLOOR
17 days until the 2016 CrossFit Games.
GAMES PREP
Keep it varied and keep it weird. Josh Bridges somehow managed to outfit a backpack to attach a 55 pound bumper plate for running. Thuri Helgadottir hits some sprints, and afterwards CrossFit Tilgangur throws her in the air a few times to wish her farewell and good luck at the Games. Noah Ohlsen does a100 round WOD that starts with muscle-ups. Katrin Davidsdottir smiles a LOT, she’s not smiling now. Sara Sigmundsdottir hit a 198 pound clean and jerk every 30 seconds for 25 minutes (if you do the math that ‘s almost double Grace at 198 pounds). Mathew Fraser has taken pegboard practice to an entirely different level. Emily Bridgers, Stacie Tovar and Becca Voigt do a 6 mile hike then a lake swim. Alex Anderson just challenged Lucas Parker to an old fashioned lumberjack fist fight.
A closer look — South Dakota’s Zak Carchedi walked into CrossFit Sioux Falls three-and-a-half years ago and said he wanted to go to the CrossFit Games. His coach, Casey Mouw, says Carchedi is “by far the hardest-working athlete I’ve ever had.” After failing to make the Games in 2014 and 2015, Mouw suggested Carchedi needed to starting working out with athletes that would push him harder, that’s when he found Jacob Heppner.
