Jacob Heppner has had entrepreneurial blood in his veins for as long as he can remember.
“I was the kid selling lemonade on the side of the street,” said the four-time CrossFit Games veteran. “So I was an entrepreneur as a kid, but I think you lose that when you go into a job and you work a nine to five, working for the man. You can lose that ability to be creative and to go out and take risks.”
CrossFit Cancels Athletes Unleashed’s Affiliation After Derogatory Email
CrossFit LLC removed Buffalo, NY based Athletes Unleashed as an official CrossFit affiliate after a racially charged and derogatory email from owner Robby Dinero was reported by local news blog WNYMedia.net. The email was sent to a Buffalo woman in response to a request for a refund for the Liberty Games competition originally scheduled for March 28, 2020, which was postponed and eventually canceled.
Dinero: “I will refund your money as soon as you eat my a** you filthy, foreign, third-world country piece of s**t.”
Upon learning about the email, CrossFit reached out to Dinero to confirm the authenticity of the email, which he didn’t deny and CrossFit subsequently canceled his affiliation on Friday.
CrossFit LLC: “We are outraged and appalled by the language used by Mr. Dinero, which has no place in the CrossFit community. When we heard about the issue, we contacted Mr. Dinero, who did not deny using the language in question, so we have terminated his affiliate relationship with CrossFit, effective immediately.”
Seasons of Change: How the Games Format Affects the Best in the Sport
It was just Thanksgiving here in the United States, a holiday built around gratitude and reflection, and considering we are just around the corner from yet another change to the CrossFit Games season format, it is worthwhile to reflect back on the changes from the prior two seasons and how they were reflected on the final leaderboards.
One big thing: Understanding the influence of format on result is important considering that when we talk about overall finish at the Games we are talking about the livelihood of athletes whose reputation, exposure, and earning power through sponsorships can be drastically altered by the number next to their name on the leaderboard.
Typically there are two big thresholds that have been perennial benchmarks for Games athletes that serve as solid parameters for evaluating the shuffling of overall placement at the Games at year’s end.
US Army Warrior Fitness Team Holding Tryouts for 2021 Season
The United States Army Warrior Fitness Team is reloading their roster for the upcoming 2021 CrossFit season. The team will be holding an online tryout for members of the US Army that are interested in joining.
One big thing: The Army Warrior Fitness Team is looking to fill 5-6 slots on the full-time, active duty team, with the possibility of more slots being created depending on the quality of athletes that try out. The ultimate goal of the team is to bring together the most competitive group of soldiers to compete against elite athletes in the sport of fitness.
The details: CPT Rachel Schreiber and SGT Jacob Pfaff, current members of the team, will be handling the selection process for the new roster of athletes. To be considered for the full-time team, soldiers must currently be in an active duty status in the Army.

There were no correct responses to Friday’s trivia question which asked “which woman has competed in the most CrossFit Games Affiliate/Team competitions?” The correct answer was Jessica Core. She competed on seven Games teams for CrossFit Fort Vancouver including their 2010 Affiliate Cup Championship Team. She also competed as an individual at the 2015 CrossFit Games.
Today’s question: Who are the Top 3 athletes with the most Masters Divisions CrossFit Games appearances?
In our first community round-up of the week we are highlighting several fundraisers around the CrossFit world:
Charlie Bell’s 150km Challenge: Eight-year-old Charlie Bell, a young CrossFit athlete from Hykeham, UK, set a goal at the beginning of the COVID pandemic. He would walk 150km and raise money for the Lincoln Community Larder. Months in, he’s surpassed his goal by 1000% and has raised over £1,600 so far.
Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust: Earlier this month, a group of friends in Gloucester, UK came together for a 27-hour CrossFit Challenge to raise money in honor of their friend Carrie-Ann Taitt who passed away from cervical cancer at the age of 31. They chose 27 hours to represent one hour of work for every month she suffered. Together they raised £1,600 for Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust.
