Dubai Fitness Championships

Good morning and welcome to the Morning Chalk Up. Today’s edition was chalked up while setting our 2017 fitness and strength goals with our new goal planner.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Whether you think you can, or you can’t, you are probably right.” — Unknown

TO DUBAI OR NOT TO DUBAI?

EVERYONE’S IN DUBAI, WHAT FOR?

The Dubai Fitness Championships, duh! While it may be thousands of miles away in a desert oasis along the Emirates coast, this end of year capstone competition regularly draws household names in CrossFit.

LIKE WHO?

Unlike other off season competitions, the Dubai Championships is an ELITE ONLY throwdown. This year we’re watching the likes of Alec and Dane Smith, Alex Vigneault, Alex Anderson, Bjorgvin Gudmundsson, Frederik Aegidius, Jonne Koski, Jordan Troyan, Kenneth Leverich, Lukas Hoberg, Lukas Esslinger, Mathew Fraser, Ricky Garard, Alessandra Pichelli, Annie Thorisdottir (won 2015), Brittany Weiss, Brooke Ence, Carmen Bosmans, Jamie Greene (won 2016 CrossFit Open), Jen Smith, Kari Pearce, Mia Akerlund, Sara Sigmundsdottir, Samantha Briggs, Thuri Helgadottir.
Dang. Stacked.

WHERE CAN I FOLLOW AND WATCH?

We don’t have a link yet for the live stream but we’ll share as soon as we get it. The best way to get leaderboard updates is to go here.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU HIT THE BOX

When a Games athlete fails a rep it doesn’t look any different than one of us, just watch Tia-Clair Toomey. Chris Spealler isn’t ruling out another run at the CrossFit Games if he were to qualify for the 35-39 Masters bracket. Reebokdesigned the new Legacy Lifters with the help of world record lifter CJ Cummings. CHALK UP AFFILIATES

Athletes at CrossFit Harwood Heights in Chicago hosted the “CrossFit Harwood Heights Does Zumba To Feed The Homeless” fundraiser over the weekend, raising $1,000 to feed local area homeless.

Not quite an affiliate but the social studies teacher at Discovering Choices, a Calgary Board of Education alternative high school for at-risk kids, has weights and rings throughout his classroom so his students can stay active. They can do pushups, ring-dip challenges. They do all sorts of weird stuff and challenge each other to do stuff. And I say, ‘OK, you’ve distracted me long enough. You can get back to doing your schoolwork.’ I’m easily distracted – I’m just like they are.” Oh and he coaches at CrossFit Calgary.
