EPIC Food for Epic Health.
|
What is it?
EPIC, the company we all know and love for their tasty meat snacks, has just gotten even more EPIC’er. They’ve released a new Performance Bar and it’s downright delicious.
Tell me more.
The EPIC Performance Bar stands out for a few reasons, like what’s not in them. Each of the bars have six non-GMO ingredients or less and use cage-free egg whites. And, get this, EPIC made sure the bars would be easy to digest, so if you’re in a total time crunch you can eat them right before you WOD.
That’s a plus.
For sure, and it’s a plus for the hens too because EPIC only uses cage-free egg whites. Katie Forrest, co-founder of EPIC, said she wants people to fuel up “with delicious, trustworthy ingredients knowing that your choice helps positively impact the wellbeing of hens raised for egg production.” And with 12 grams of protein, gluten-free and non-gmo ingredients, you can make every bite epic.
Where can I get one right now?
Right now the Performance Bars are available at epicbar.com in Peanut Butter chocolate, Almond Butter Chocolate, Lemon, and Peanut Butter. But also keep an eye out for them in the next few weeks at your local grocery stores in the nutrition bar aisle.

CrossFit PBM Takes Fourth and Final Spot from Meridian Regionals.
|
Remind me?
Last week, it was revealed that CrossFit Riviera, who won the Meridian Regional was disqualified for violating a rule that a rule which stats that a “Licensee of Record” for an affiliate may not compete on another affiliate’s team. This rule was enforced even though the new affiliate hasn’t opened yet.
So who’s taking their place?
Sixth placed CrossFit PBM Unite from Pretoria, South Africa will be taking their place. They received the official word from CrossFit HQ on Friday night around 11PM local time.
“It was a surprise,” said Lize Nel, who competed with CrossFit PBM Unite. “We had heard about Riviera’s disqualification, but didn’t think it [would] concerns us in any way.”
Lize said the team didn’t stop training after Regionals and they officially kicked off Games training yesterday.
Sixth? What about the fifth place team?
Fifth placed CrossFit Galileo told us they were first reached out to on Thursday, June, 13, but upon further review they too were disqualified.
According to a press release from CrossFit HQ, “a review of [CrossFit Galileo’s] Event 4 performance resulted in a score adjustment. The adjustment more than closed the relatively small point spread between Galiléô and CrossFit PBM Unite. PBM ended up with a total of 430 points to Galiléô’s 418 and has received an invitation to the CrossFit Games.”
Unfortunately, we weren’t able to get more info on what exactly the scoring error was.

What to tell your friend that’s always promising to be at the 5 AM class but never actually shows up to the 5 AM class…
We get it. Early mornings aren’t for everyone. But there are things you can do to get an early morning workout in. Seven things to be precise. And if these tips don’t work, maybe coach can make the WOD a run…to your house…then a partner carry…you, out of bed. Maybe?

Alex took 3rd in her age group division with a time of 1:34 and Meredith 7th with 1:40 • Kenzie Riley takes her Games training outside with a few cals on the bike and then a lake swim with Hayley Adams • Yesterday was Julie Foucher’s nine year CrossFit

…and you thought double unders were tough!
If You Build It, They Will Come — One day Coach Stephanie Meyer wrapped up a class and noticed that there was a second class going on at Ft Wright CrossFit, in Fort Wright, KY. Back in the kids room, the young ones had set up their own mini-metcon. So Stephanie got an idea and now, once a month on a Sunday, parents bring their kids for a parent and kid CrossFit class.
Cass Olholm on Her Abs — “People say to me “oh you’re so lucky that you’re so fit” or “you’re so lucky that you’re so strong”. The thing is luck doesn’t get me out of bed at 4:00am morning. Luck doesn’t put my trainers on. Luck really doesn’t have anything to do with it. To be brutally honest it comes down to the combination of two things – hard work and consistency. It’s not easy. But what ever worth having is easy?”
Progress is Progress is Progress — “A good reminder that progress looks different, from Ascension Strength. Progress is progress — whether it’s a small improvement, a large improvement, or establishing a good habit. Don’t sweat the small stuff or lose hope when your progress slows, you have a setback, or when you don’t achieve your goals perfectly. Improving health or fitness takes time and the rewards are slow. Approach it with patience, looking to establish good habits in the long run, over quick fixes in the short term that are more likely to fail or rebound.”

“Champion Dad Joe Martin: Leading by Example” by Think Health
For the first six weeks of his health journey, Joe committed himself to cleaning out his pantry and watching what he ate. “I had no idea how little 2,000 calories a day was and how many calories some things had,” he remembers. After the diet change, Joe took up walking and running on the treadmill. One year later, he was down 100 pounds from his start weight.
“It’s a challenge always looking to improve. But that is what life is all about; you don’t settle and you keep growing.”
Joe’s initial weight loss motivated him to keep going. He joined a CrossFit gym to add some muscle and definition to his newly slim body—he recalls that he had a “shape that wasn’t very shapely.” After mastering the basics like pull-ups, jump roping and sprinting, Joe was smitten. He went on to compete in 16 CrossFit competitions, making like-minded fitness friends and connections along the way. He was feeling as toned, fit and confident as ever, so when a friend asked Joe to help him train for a half Ironman, he felt up to the challenge.
