Good morning. It’s Saturday, May 28, and this is your Morning Chalk Up. We have another exciting day ahead of us today. We know it’s the weekend so we’ll keep this short.
REGIONALS ROUNDUP
It’s been an exciting day of records so far. Here’s a collection of fast facts.
NEW EVENT RECORDS
Event 1: Mathew Fraser – East – 6:05
Event 2: Thuridur Helgadottir – Meridian – 18:54
Event 3: Annie Thorisdottir – Meridian – 4:35
Event 4: Sam Briggs – Meridian – 13:35
Event 5: Sara Sigmundsdottir – Meridian – 12:37
After two weekends and five regionals, not a single female was able to complete Event 2. Yesterday, both Thuridur Helgadottir (18:54) and Kari Pearce (18:58) smashed the previous event record, coming in under 19:00 minutes. In the East, the Event 1 record was broken twice on the same day: first by Trevor James (6:19) in the first heat, then by Mathew Fraser (6:05) in the fourth heat. Had James and Fraser not broken the Event 1 record, two athletes in the Central Regional would have beaten it in one single heat (Alex Anderson and Scott Panchik). Mathew Fraser (AKA “The Beast in the East”) took two straight number 1 finishes on Friday. Unbroken — Annie Thorisdottir goes unbroken through the pull ups on Event 3 to set the new record of 4:34. Samantha Briggs vaulted from 11th to 5th place after a 3rd and 1st place finish. Briggs’ Event 4 win set the new Event record with a time of 13:35. What does $35 in cereal, pizza, bonfires and salt and vinegar chips have in common with Emily Bridgers?
