Darth Castro

Good morning and welcome to the Morning Chalk Up. In honor of the new Star Wars film hitting theaters today, we thought we’d have some fun with everyone’s favorite CrossFit villain, Darth Castro.

P.S. We just landed in Phoenix, AZ late last night. If you’ve got a box recommendation in the Scottsdale area, shoot us an email.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

CHALK UP IN 2 MINUTES

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU HIT THE BOX

Chalk this one up to WODs we’ll never be able to complete in our life, Alexis Johnson does 50-40-30-20-10 unbroken chest to bar pull-ups in 11:18. Demi Bagby will never have problems with rope climbs, ever. You don’t hear a lot coming out of South America but here’s Carolinne Hobo squat cleaning 245 pounds for a double. This is how much Kelsey Kiel has changed over three years of CrossFit. Carleen Mathews and Tyson Takasaki are on their way to Acapulco, Mexico to compete in the Ultimate WOD.FUN FACT: The average squat clean was 168 pounds in the Teenage Girls 14-15 Division and 182 pounds in the Teenage Girls 16-17 Division at the 2016 Reebok CrossFit Games.

“Stan Smith Sets ‘Dream Goals’ to Achieve Greatness,” by Gameplan-A

You get this sense of calmness when you listen to Stan Smith. When he played, he was so composed and was so in control of his emotions. He was a practical player. The very best in the world.

He told me he had four goals as a kid – such big goals that he was embarrassed to even tell his parents.

“As a kid, I had four goals. One was to make the U.S. Davis Cup team and represent the country. Two was to become the number one player in the United States. Three was to win Wimbledon and four was to become the No. 1 player in the world … When I was able to do that, it was a special moment”, said Stan Smith.

“4 Lessons Learned From Waking Up At 445 AM To Do CrossFit” by Sunny Shakhawala
I’ve been going to my CrossFit gym for about 5 years now. In that time, I’ve made myself a regular at more than one time slot.

When I began, I only went to the 8 PM class. This was the latest class of the day, full of beginners and the least attended. I fit right in. As I became acclimated and started to show improvement, I moved down to the 7 PM class. This was where most of the 20-something 9-5rs came to play.

A few weeks later, I got injured doing deadlifts. I was out of the gym for a whole month. During my time off, I decided to train for longevity instead of peak performance. After a handful of Doctor visits, I was ready to go back to the gym.

I dove head first into the 530 AM class and never looked back. It’s been a few months since I made the switch. I’ve learned a lot during this time. Here are a few lessons I’d like to share.

CHALK UP AFFILIATES

Not a single applicant for the Cheyenne, Wyoming Police academy could pass the physical exam in the most recent pool of applicants. The new recruiter – Sgt. David Janes – plans to have his friend, a former marine and affiliate owner create a 30-day workout calendar for new recruits so that never happens again.

CrossFit Jääkarhu just got their own iPhone and Android apps so athletes can sign-in on the go, lookup the WOD and even see announcements and community posts.
