Defying Labels

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Never quit. It is the easiest cop-out in the world. Set a goal and don’t quit until you attain it. When you do attain it, set another goal, and don’t quit until you reach it. Never quit.” – Bear Bryant

THE COMPETITION FLOOR

Reflecting on Her Achilles — Alethea Boon: “In that moment I knew . . . and my heart broke…So much time and work goes into prepping the body and mind to compete at the games and when my achillies decided to check out I felt an instant sadness, not just for myself but for all those that went through this journey with me. I felt as if I had let them all down. I know I did the best I could and went down giving it 100%…but not finishing the games eats at me. I know I am not defined by this moment or how I finished but I am not content with letting that be…”

Morghan King, Defying Labels — “Being a strong women is a label I’ve been given, and I love the feeling of being strong. Anyone who would say that being strong and being feminine is not cool, I’d probably have some choice words…I think it’s really really important to teach women and to teach girls to embrace their bodies. I think that’s pretty powerful for a woman.” Morghan is 30 years old and competing at the Olympics in the 48 KG weightlifting class.

Balancing Ownership and the Games — In December, an opportunity arose for Stacie Tovar and her husband to take ownership of CrossFit Omaha, a gym where she trained. Tovar took advantage of the opportunity and made the commitment with her husband to co-own CrossFit Omaha. “I always wondered where this would go. My husband and I were questioning even last year before we bought CrossFit Omaha, where are we going to go back to and what am I going to do when it’s all said and done? And the two of us together thought there is no one else we would rather work for and nothing we feel more passion about than CrossFit, fitness, getting people healthy, active and living a lifestyle that is awesome,” Tovar said.
