Does Everyone Need Eight Hours of Sleep?

Does Everyone Need Eight Hours of Sleep?

Sleep is a fundamental pillar of health. It impacts our brain function, has an influence on our ability to learn, and unlike ineffective detox diets or supplements, sleep actually removes toxins from your brain. (This is why you feel fuzzy-headed after a sleepless night.) Conversely, lack of sleep contributes to depression, seizures, high blood pressure, and migraines. It can affect your immunity and your metabolism — even one night of bad sleep can put a healthy person into a prediabetic state.

While scientists agree on the importance of sleep, many experts are beginning to question the conventional wisdom that everyone needs eight hours of sleep. Sleep is good, but how much sleep do we need for optimum health? The answer — like many things to do with our health — is complicated.

CrossFit Community Grieves the Passing of Brandon Abo

CrossFit Community Grieves the Passing of Brandon Abo

The CrossFit community has once again suffered another loss as beloved CrossFit Games judge Brandon Abo passed away last weekend. Abo drowned while surfing near Huntington Beach, California. He was a veteran volunteer for the CrossFit Games in Carson and Regionals held in California. He was 46-years old.

A man of many loves and selfless service: Abo leaves behind a son, Solomon, who he affectionately called Solo due to his love of Star Wars.

  • An avid surfer who always found time to hit the waves along the California coastline, he was a special education teacher who just recently graduated with his Masters of Arts in Teaching from the University of Southern California.

Dave Castro Talks Stage One and What to Expect at the Ranch And Beyond

Dave Castro Talks Stage One and What to Expect at the Ranch And Beyond

A few days removed from the first ever online stage of the CrossFit Games final, Director of Sport, Dave Castro joined the Talking Elite Fitness podcast to reflect on the weekend’s competition and the effort by his team, as well as the current status of the sport moving forward.

One big thing: Castro appeared on the podcast nearly three months ago amidst a charged socio-political landscape within the CrossFit community and company, and the difference in demeanor and outlook was evident.

  • Support from the top: Castro reiterated his relief around the support he was getting from new owner Eric Roza and his team, and stated his excitement about the new horizons he believed it could take the entire ecosystem to.
