WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU HIT THE BOX
Ryan Fischer announced the lunch of a new podcast he’s billing as the “Howard Stern of CrossFit” promising “no filters or cares about what anyone is going to think or say…I’m just going to say what I want. Create conflict. Tell my story.” Kettlebell Kitchen catered Andrea Ager’s bridal shower. Daniel Tyminski hits a 325 pound snatch balance PR. Dave Castro asks Brooke Wells to be his swolemate for the CrossFit Games Team Series, and she says…Chelsey Grigsby took second place in the World Police and Fire Games. Lauren Fisher surprised a bunch of kids at Santa Monica Boulevard Charter School with some Nike Metcons yesterday.

Wastach CrossFit’s Adrian Conway on Getting Boo’d at the Games…“At the CrossFit Games…I’m trying to prove that my fitness level or in this instance my team’s fitness level is superior to the other 39 teams that show up…I know right now you’re out there thinking ‘that’s just not what CrossFit stands for.’ On the competitive stage, it is absolutely what it stands for. You are there to watch someone that you want to win take the title. Think about the NBA, you hear fans yell the most obnoxious and obscene things at these guys and what is the difference between what they’re pursuing versus what we’re pursuing? Is it OK in certain sport entities and not OK at the level of the CrossFit Games because the community aspect? Clearly things need to be approached with taste, but there is nothing disrespectful about some jeers and some boos.”
WHAT TO TELL YOUR TEENAGER WHO’S STRUGGLING WITH SPORTS ANXIETY…
So much of sports is mental, and they’re not alone in this. Shelby Neal, who placed sixth this year in the 16-17 Teenage division, actually quit gymnastics after her anxiety with the sport got so bad. “One day, I could do a skill, and I was fine. Then, I’d have one fall, and that’s all I could think about — my failures,” Neal told Teen Vogue. Fear stymied her growth as an athlete to the point where she was incapable of moving forward. Switching to CrossFit, Neal improved significantly but still struggled with the mental aspect of believing she was good enough to be at the 2016 CrossFit Games, but come 2017 she was all in.

“Every single time I enter the gym, I am scared. I am scared of being laughed at for never having touched a barbell before in my life.”
That’s the way Resie Waechter felt before walking into Burg CrossFit.
“But every single time I leave the gym, I am reassured,” Waechter wrote in Creative Loafing Tampa. “No matter how much I struggle to finish a workout or how weak I feel in comparison to others, I am coached and encouraged and reminded repeatedly throughout my workouts how capable I am.”
Like many other athletes, his wife Stephanie joined first and slowly worked him into coming along too.
