It’s That Friyay Kinda Feeling Y’all

Good morning and welcome to the Morning Chalk Up. Today’s edition was chalked up while doing our final gear check for our climb up Mt. Whitney. Reminder: there will be no Morning Chalk Up on Monday or Tuesday. If there’s no edition on Wednesday, then that’s probably not a good thing for anyone!

Countdown…6 days until Weightlifting National Championships…14 days until Regionals.

CHALK UP AFFILIATES

Fitness and Ministry — In a small town in Iowa, a group of students join their youth pastor at 5AM, five days a week to lift weights, get fit and build a stronger community. The nearest affiliate is more than 15 miles outside of town and they’re running out of good equipment and space, so they’re trying to crowdsource help from the greater CF community to buy a few bumper plates.
A star senior at Coosa Christian High School remembers watching the 2014 CrossFit Games and thinking, “I just really like the aspect of pushing yourself to the limit and seeing how much you can do.” She’s heading to University of Alabama-Huntsville on a softball scholarship, but after college she wants to compete at the CrossFit Games.

Congratulations to Moscow CrossFit in Moscow, ID for being voted the 2017 Best Gym/Workout Facility by the Inland 360 Readers’ Choice Awards. They received 53% (1,239) of the votes cast.

An Officer in Need — A Filipino-American LAPD officer is in dire need of a bone marrow match from someone of Filipino Heritage. CrossFit Live in Norwalk, CA is helping to get the word out.

CHALK UP READS

Last year, I had a very successful friend quit her job in the financial world and move to an island to help her mother’s travel agency. She took a gigantic pay cut and her health benefits went with it. Some people didn’t understand. How on earth, at 30 years old, was she already burnt out? Maybe she was lazy or selfish.
She’s neither. She’s healthier, happier, able to travel more and see friends. Could she have pushed through another few decades chained to a desk non-stop? Sure. But for what?

We hail people who work 60-hour weeks and juggle training two-a-days. Or athletes who continue when they’re injured. “They’re such hard workers! No pain, no gain!”

We are encouraged to push and push and push. And then we break.
