QUOTE OF THE DAY
|
“You might never fail on the scale I did, but some failure in life is inevitable. It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all – in which case, you fail by default.” — J.K. Rowling

Glassman Firms Up CrossFit Games Details in Exclusive Interview
|
From the man himself.
In an exclusive interview with Girls Gone WOD Podcast released yesterday, Greg Glassman firms up more details on the new format for the CrossFit Games season. This comes just two weeks after we broke the news about the new changes.
Oh and yesterday, CrossFit announced that the 2019 Granite Games will be a sanctioned event.
Here are a few of the changes Glassman has solidified so far.
So will there be 160+ teams?
No. Glassman said that the teams will be cropped from the 16 planned sanctioned events. “We’re talking initially of in the first year or two, launching 16 sanctioned events that give a pathway to the Games, and those are where the teams are going to come from,” Glassman said.
What will the sanctioned events be?
Dubai CrossFit Championship was announced last week. Glassman said on the podcast that Wodapalooza and French Throwdown are “on board.”
How will they handle 160+ individual competitors for both male and females?
Likely an elimination system. “We’re going to cull the herd into a very watchable and exciting number of people. What could happen is early in the week put 200 [athletes] through a task that leaves ten, then watching ten for two days,” Glassman sai.
What about Teens and Masters divisions?
Uncertain, but appears they haven’t been cut out completely. “In every country we’ll have crowned fittest man and woman, and we can do something similar of course with the juniors and masters.”

BOOK REVIEW
“As Many Reps As Possible” by Jason Khalipa
|
“Any entrepreneur will tell you that the path toward success when building a new business is never a smooth one. It demands around-the-clock work and attention. There are no days off. But there are constant lessons. You have to be willing to learn often and learn hard.”
Anyone who’s familiar with Jason Khalipa knows he’s no stranger to hard work. He’s been an affiliate owner for 10 years, competed at the CrossFit Games for eight years and stood on the podium three times. On top of his U.S.-based CrossFit boxes, he also operates an entire line of corporate gyms in three countries. Today, Khalipa is one of the most successful athletes and businessmen to come out of CrossFit.
Through these years of hard work, Khalipa developed the AMRAP Mentality; it’s sort of a mental mantra housing the competitive and laser focus he applies to all aspects of his life.
“For over a decade I have pushed myself against the clock in workouts, and the desire to get the most out of each minute has laid the foundation for the AMRAP Mentality. At its core, the AMRAP Mentality is about achieving your goals, big and small, through focus, dedication, and hard work. Whether you’re in the gym, at home, or at work, the AMRAP Mentality is a system that puts your thoughts, feelings, and actions into an alignment that allows you to get the best and most effective work done toward your goals.”

“Why One Busy Mom Made Time for Fitness,” by Emily Beers, CrossFit Journal
Julie Valdez had a bad case of “mom guilt.”
“You know, the guilt moms feel that they aren’t doing enough,” she said. “I had all this guilt that I wasn’t doing enough to balance all my kids’ needs.”
Valdez, 32, is mother to two sets of twins: Aiden and Isaiah, 4, and Augustine and Isabella, 2.
“Mom guilt” kept Valdez from taking care of herself. A perceived lack of time and energy meant she didn’t prioritize her nutrition, and she let her fitness slide. As a result, by the time Augustine and Isabella were born in 2016, she had reached 210 lb. at 5 foot 4.
She felt unhealthy and lethargic and suffered from postpartum depression. In July 2016, when her youngest twins were six-months-old, Valdez hit rock bottom.
“I went on a family vacation to Florida. I saw a picture of myself after the vacation and hardly recognized who I was,” she said.
She knew it was time to make a change—not just for her own sake, but also for her children. So she went to the doctor, who told Valdez she was obese.
After the appointment, Valdez sat in her car and cried.
Valdez immediately turned to CrossFit 630 in Naperville, Illinois, for help.
