“That was my biggest takeaway. How bad I want this.” Dallin Pepper Says He’s a Serious Contender for the 2022 CrossFit Games
When he made a name for himself in the teenage division at the CrossFit Games–standing on top of the podium in 2017, 2018 and 2019– Dallin Pepper was just warming up.
“I’m tired of hearing about what I did as a teenager, I loved it, it got me to where I am, but I’m an individual now and I’m here to compete with them.”
Now at just 20-years-old, Pepper is looking to finally break through in the men’s individual category, and after finishing fifth at Wodapalooza, he’s a serious contender to do just that.
“I think the transition to actually physically competing is definitely difficult because of how competitive all the men are. Everything is so fast out on that floor, everyone is good at everything. I’m not too worried about making a name for myself, I’ll let the results speak for that as I continue to compete.”

How did Brandon Tucker do 1,300 muscle-ups in 24 hours?
Brandon Tucker’s journey to completing 1,300 muscle-ups in 24 hours, setting a Guinness World Record in the process this February actually started all the way back in 2009.
“It wasn’t until I watched my older brother deploy to Afghanistan from 2009 to 2010 that I knew what it was that I wanted to do,” said the 31-year-old, who is still waiting on verification from Guinness for his record. “At the time I was 20 years old working in the back of a sawmill stacking ties and lumber.”
Tucker said at that point, he was your typical 20-year-old, figuring what he didn’t want from his life, getting in trouble and finding out “what hard work really was.”
On April 23, 100 competitors (50 male, 50 female) will take part in the first day of the inaugural GORUCK Games in Jacksonville, FL. Part of the field is set, but there is still time for athletes to send in their applications and secure a spot competing for the $15,000 prize for first.
The potential competitors must be comfortable with five-mile runs and a baseline weight of 45/30 pounds (male/female). For those who don’t know, a key part of GORUCK is built around the idea of carrying a fellow soldier out of a life or death situation.
The details: The GORUCK Games are by invitation only, but athletes must put in some effort to punch their tickets to the two-day event at Sandlot JAX at Metropolitan Park, Jacksonville.
There is a simple application form for athletes to complete. This is where the athletes will provide their name, gender, and bullet points of their athletic background/applicable achievements.
There isn’t a specific type of athlete that GORUCK has in mind. The two-day event is open to endurance athletes, CrossFitters, military veterans, and a variety of other backgrounds.
GORUCK will go through the list of applicants and select the best options until the field hits 50 males and 50 females.
The GORUCK Games will unfold over two days. The first day, April 23, will serve as qualifying while whittling down the field of competitors over multiple events. The second day, April 24, will feature eight athletes from each division as they face off for a spot in the final round.
The prize for first place will be $15,000. Second place will walk away with $5,000, third place will take $2,000, and fourth will take $1,000. The athletes finishing fifth through eighth will each get $500.
The GORUCK Games will primarily take place at a 400-meter track featuring a rig provided by Rogue and an obstacle course. There will be no barbells or “fancy equipment.” The first day will also feature an off-site component of unknown distance.
Why this matters: GORUCK, which held 1,000 events annually pre-pandemic and 500 annually after, is not setting out to replace the CrossFit Games, Spartan Races, or any other types of competition. Instead, the goal is to put rucking on a bigger stage, show how it is the basis for Special Forces training, and bring community members closer together in a fun and festive environment.
