QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Ever tried. Ever failed. No Matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.” — Samuel Beckett

AVOLATTE ANYONE?

AVO WHAT?
You read it right. Thrillist Food & Drink has provided us with our next novelty food creation to obsess (or gawk) over. Forget avocado toast. This is apparently the next big thing.

Avocado lattes, or more commonly referred to as “avolattes.”

Rich espresso and perfectly frothed milk served directly out of the shell of an avocado; possibly donning it’s very own expertly executed latte art.

BUT WHY?
This trend began when baristas working in a cafe in Australia decided to combine their two obsessions: coffee and avocados.

The avolatte caught on with other local cafes and has now become an internet sensation (maybe that’s a bit of an overstatement, but you get it. We’re talking about it, aren’t we?).

SO ARE YOU IN OR ARE YOU OUT?
Whether you’re ready to create a petition for your local cafes to create their own version or it’s existence alone makes you question what millennials are going to think of next, we highly recommend reading the hilariously trending #avolatte tweets. Even Merriam Webster is in on the fun.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU HIT THE BOX

ROUNDUP — Former CrossFit Games team athlete Emily Breeze comes to the defense of President Trump’s daughter-in-law after she gets Internet hate mail over working out pregnant. It’s Hilary Froning’s birthday week and to celebrate she’s giving away some fresh cut flowers to you and a friend. St. Lucie Commissioner Chris Dzadovsky calls the hurricane an “Irma CrossFit Marathon.”

Number of the Day — 5: That’s the number of weeks pregnant Michaela North was when her team, Wasatch Brutes, won the Affiliate Cup at the 2017 CrossFit Games. That fact goes to the Barbell Spin.

Throwback Tuesday (we know that’s not a thing BTW) to athletes at Pacific Regionals dancing to YMCA down on the competition floor.

WORK BREAK — For when the caffeine is wearing off and you need to watch an OH MY moment to pick ya back up.

Miss Michigan Heather Kendrick on her proudest accomplishment…“I’ve always loved being active and spending time outdoors, but when I first started CrossFit, I began to appreciate my body for the work it can do. This mindset transformed how I approach self-care, health, and overall well-being.”

LAUNCHING BASE CULTURE — How Jordann Windschauer went from a corporate event planner, to a 30-day Paleo challenge at CrossFit, to opening a Paleo baked goods company. Originally started as a passion project out of a little sweet-tooth craving, Base Culture now sells thirteen different products online and in retail stores and just moved into a 44,000 square foot facility to meet growing demand.

CHALK UP AFFILIATES

Something looks different about CrossFit Tempest when you walk though their doors in Mitchell, SD. It used to be the home of Mitchell Christian School. The only CrossFit Affiliate for 80 miles, CrossFit Tempest opened their doors in May.

FUN FACT: Their first member was 50-year-old Sheri Morris.

HARVEY RELIEF — As soon as the extent of the damage and devastation in Texas was revealed, CrossFit Winter Garden owner Lee Lovette knew he couldn’t just let it go without doing something to help. So they started using the box as a collection hub for donated supplies. At the end they hauled more than 200 cases of water and 200 bags of clothes, 1 ton of canned goods and food and 50+ cases of diapers all the way to Houston.

But guess what? The crazy part of this story is that CrossFit Winter Garden is located in West Orange County, FL and they face an uncertain future as Hurricane Irma is preparing to move up the coast of Florida. To prepare, they’ve lined the box with sandbags and sealed up the doors.

Steel Mill CrossFit in Fleming Island, FL is opening their doors today to anyone needing a little help after Hurricane Irma. “We would like to open our doors to the public to help them any way we can. The doors will be open at 6 a.m. and will be open all day until 8:30 p.m.”
