“I’m 60. No more sore back, no more sore knees”

Happy Friday everyone! Let’s hope today is better for you than this guy. It’s Friday, June 24, and this is your Morning Chalk Up. Did we miss something? Send us a tip at [email protected].

QUOTE OF THE DAY

You can learn a line from a win and a book from a defeat.” – Paul Brown

THE COMPETITION FLOOR

24 days until the 2016 CrossFit Games.

REMINDER: Here’s how to watch the Games live.

GAMES PREP
Warning…triple under are dangerous. Becca Voigt posts this OG 2009 CrossFit Games t-shirt. Marcus Filly is either swimming in the nicest pool or the nicest lake. Even Games athletes struggle with burpees, just ask Alessandra Pichelli. Apparently Rich Froning’s nickname for Ben Smith is “whale skin.”

Masters, truly – Age really is nothing but a number, 61 year old Sandy Terrazzano will tell you. She couldn’t even do a push up when she started CrossFit, now she’s competing at the Games. After the death of his son in 2011 and attempting suicide, Jeff Goebel joined CrossFit and it became the release for his pain and that outlet has now become his passion. Next month he’s competing in Carson for the second year in a row.

Correction…yesterday, we incorrectly posited that Jacob Heppner’s Helen workout was NOT a Games-level workout. It in fact was a Games workout from the 2010 CrossFit Games and it’s aptly named “Pyramid Double Helen.”
GRANITE GAMES

Workouts 3 and 4 are out. Both scores are due by June 27 at 7PM CT.

GOLF DIGEST IS COMPLETELY WRONG

Earlier this week, we posted an article by Golf Digest where they explored whether golfers should be doing olympic lifts as a way of improving their “power and overall fitness,” to which they emphatically responded “Don’t.”

Golf Digest is absolutely 100% wrong. We posted this article to our Facebook page and asked fans to share their stories. Here are a just few of our favorites:

Chad: “I disagree. I am 44 and led a sedentary life for the past 4 to 5 years. I started CrossFit 3 months ago and I am thankful I did…Great coaches watch and teach you the right movements and they pay attention to your form. If the form isn’t there, they have you lower the weight or do a progression for the movement until you are strong enough to do it.”

Davis: “Oh I disagree with this. Since I started doing Crossfit, I no longer get sore from my rounds of golf and I have gained more strength and swing speed. That is because flexibility is very important in both sports and I didn’t actually start focusing on it until I started Crossfit.”

Scott: “I’m 60. Started CrossFit a year ago. No more sore back, no more sore knees and I hit a golf ball straighter and farther than I ever have.”

Burklin: “I have scoliosis. I have back pain and hip issues every day of my life. I ‘slipped’ a disc two years ago, just bending over. Can you guess what I did for recovery? I didn’t go to a PT. I went to my sport chiropractor, and my local box, CrossFit Farmland…I started the class barely able to walk, certainly not able to jump or run, using only a PVC pipe. In a matter of weeks I was walking better, I could jump, I was back up to my average working weight and going heavier. I came out of that 8 week period with my functionality and strength back, and pr’d my lifts. It was the best training I could have done to expedite my recovery. I have extremely gifted, intelligent, and professionally trained coaches who knew how to help me.”

Mic drop…

HEALTH & MOBILITY

Because regular pistols just aren’t hard enough, try burpee to pistol to jump over a PVC pipe.

WHAT THE ELITES ARE DOING

Alec Smith worked out with Brooke Ence. Cute birthday hair Kristin Pope.Brooke Ence makes a 175 pound snatch look pretty darn easy. Cassidy Lance hits 175 push jerks for 10. Elijah Muhammad has moved into his garage gym, sorta.
