Happy Wednesday! This is the Morning Chalk Up, your daily roundup of the fittest news in the CrossFit® world.
We hit a huge milestone yesterday, surpassing 5000 subscribers!! We started this newsletter seven months ago because we love CrossFit and wanted to create a product that others like us would enjoy.
Usually we spend Wednesday’s diving deep into a topic – historical, cultural, or otherwise. But, to mark this occasion we’re taking a few paragraphs to introduce something new we’ve been working on for the past month – the Chalk Up Calendar.
THE CHALK UP CALENDAR
Almost every week we publish a story about a local affiliate that raised a few thousand bucks for a member in their community through a friendly competition. But since there wasn’t a Google search for “CrossFit competitions nearby” it was nearly impossible to find all these events until a story was published.
It’s simple math: the more people that know, the more who can compete and the more money that can be raised to support the people who truly need it. So we decided to build a calendar so athletes from Poughkeepsie to Pebble Beach could find an opportunity for some fitness fun. It didn’t take long to realize that we could expand the categories to include other events like big national competitions, weightlifting meets, official CrossFit® events and workshops.
It’s really simple, you can email us at tips@morningchalkup.com. We also include a link just below the Competition Calendar section every day. In the next several weeks, we’ll add a button to our website where you can submit an event online.
I love events!!! How can I get more involved?
If events are your jam, and you want to help us and become our events curator, send Justin an email. If you think this is a terrible feature, send Justin an email anyways. He likes hearing from people!

SPEED READ
IN 2 MINUTES — There will be a world record attempt for the most unbroken strict ring muscle-ups at Battle of the Beasts October 30. Julie Foucher sits down and talks with the two founders of PurePharma. Things we noticed that were strange — literally no one in this article about CrossFit is actually doing CrossFit. Athlete Daily makes the case that looking good naked “can be a legit priority” for showing up to the gym.
AFFILIATE CORNER — Tangletown CrossFit in southwest Minneapolis is the current Barbells for Boobs state champs, meaning they raised more than any other box in Minnesota. October 29th they’re looking to defend their title and raise $5000. CrossFit Murrieta raised $5500 in their annual “WOD for a Cause” competition which supports City of Hope, a cancer research hospital in SoCal.
