QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Effort is a choice.” — Cory Gregory
|
“I’VE TAKEN FULL ACCOUNTABILITY FOR THE MISCOUNTED REPS.”
|
Remind me.
Last Thursday, we reported that Haley Adams’ video for the Age Group Online Qualifier was missing 96 double-under reps counted in her total score. CrossFit HQ, as part of their video review, was looking in it and planning to assess a penalty.
So what happened?
Adams was assessed a major 15% penalty and her score was adjusted from 1052 reps down to 894 reps.
Adams’ overall score was readjusted and she tied for first with Kaela Stephano. Because Stephano has more top rank finishes, however, she is the overall winner of the AGOQ.
Got it. So what does Haley have to say about all this?
About as mature a response as we’ve seen from any athlete:
“I’ve taken full accountability for the miscounted reps. It was a counting mistake with my judge and simple, and I will never let it happen again. When I compete, it’s obvious I do not cheat my way there. I’ve spoken with [CrossFit] headquarters and have received even more reps off, but they know mistakes happen and so do I. Even though I have been rattled by this event, I am grateful for the system because it is designed to catch people that are actually trying to cheat.
“I’m 17-years-old and in 11th grade. I have my whole career ahead of me. I love this sport with my whole heart and would never ever intentionally do anything like this as I’ve never had an issue like this before.”

MEET MIGHTY MOM.
|
The story.
So Mother’s day is next Sunday (you’re welcome for the reminder), and as a way to honor all the hardworking CrossFit moms out there — and recognize how much work it takes to be a mom — FlapJacked released a new video showing how CrossFit helps moms in everyday ways and it’s all the feels.
I love that.
We love it too, and here’s what makes this video extra special.
The mom featured is 39-year-old Jessica Thomson from CrossFit Fury in Goodyear, AZ who’s not even an actress. The real life mighty mom and NICU nurse ranked 85th in the 35-39 age division in Arizona. She can do legless rope climbs and 70 pound kettlebell farmer carries like it’s NBD, on top of raising her five-year-old kiddo.
Anything else?
If you don’t recall, CrossFit Fury was the host location for the live 18.4 announcement, and the FlapJacked crew filmed the spot a week after the event. Now go tag a mighty mom this reminds you of.

Editor’s Note: In Friday’s edition, we wrote the incorrect name of the 34-year-old suspect in the hidden camera crime at Switch CrossFit. His name is Matthew Krakowski, not James Krakowski. James is his middle name.

CHALK UP IN 2 MINUTES (a highlight reel around social media of CrossFit pros and average joes)
Sol Sigurdardottir joins the Nike team. Other Icelanders on team Nike are Sara Sigmundsdottir and Thuri Helgadottir • Hafthor Bjornsson is officially the World’s Strongest Man again • You can celebrate Camille Leblanc-Bazinet’s 30h birthday with her in Riviera Maya, Mexico • Adaptive athlete Victor Assaf hits a 135 pound single arm snatch PR • Malachi Bennett responds to David Durante’s handstand walk challenge.
…and we’re all jealous of this dog’s handstand hold.
On the Lookout: Regionals Events — We think Dave Castro will start releasing specific event details on Instagram as early as today. In 2017, he began releasing the events one-by-one starting on Monday, 10 days before the first Regional event kicked off.
— Meanwhile, Dave dropped another hint, which looks like it could mean a bench press event. That would be the first time the bench press has showed up in competition. Our thoughts immediately go to either a 1RM or a Regionals version of Linda. Imagine trying to do any pushing events after that?

“Mind Over Migraines” by Emily Beers, CrossFit Journal
Fifteen.
That’s how many days Amanda Libke gave up to crippling migraines every month.
“It’s like having a brain freeze that doesn’t go away for two days,” said 40-year-old Libke, who has suffered from chronic migraines since 16.
Migraines affected every aspect of her life: her ability to work, to exercise, to think and even to be a present mother. While some migraine triggers are avoidable—such as red wine, smoke, and processed meat and cheese—the biggest trigger is hormonal, she explained.
“They get a lot worse around my menstrual cycle,” Libke said.
Exercise was another trigger, so she avoided working out and was unfit and unhealthy for many years, she said.
