“I’m a youth minister full time and a CrossFit coach part time so teaching kids CrossFit movements on a mission trip was the best of both worlds for me,” Rusty said. “I was super impressed with how fast they picked it up and how eager they were to do the workouts.”

CHALK UP READS
When Bob Portell is grinding through the final, gut-wrenching rep of his evening CrossFit WOD, the first person he thinks of is his daughter, Josie.
“When I’m in that deep dark place, I think about how hard she works and pushes in her life and I say, ‘Hey, I can definitely push through this because she pushes so hard every single day,’” says Portell.
Josie was born with spina bifida—a birth defect that prevents proper development of the spinal cord—and has been in a wheelchair since she was 2 years old. But that hasn’t stopped her from participating in everything from track, basketball, and most recently, CrossFit.
“Depression, Hope and Community” by Brandon Ryan, Red H Nutrition
Some days I don’t want to get out of bed. We all have those days where motivation escapes us.
Normally, I’m a very hopeful and optimistic person, but every now again some very unwanted reality comes to visit. The reality in which I speak of is none other than depression, something that I have lived with for most of my life.
Don’t get me wrong, I have a great life and consider myself to be successful for only 32 years old. But depression hits all, however each case may be. It doesn’t matter the color of your skin, socio economic status or orientation, thus this is one way that humanity should be able to relate to one another in.
