QUOTE OF THE DAY
“I want young girls to know that they are capable of anything. And that they can be, and look, however they want to look.” — Tasia Percevecz
Roman Khrennikov’s inability to secure a U.S. travel visa for the second straight year could have significant implications for the men’s roster.
Khrennikov earned his spot by placing 5th at the Dubai CrossFit Championship. Fifth was good enough for the invite because the four preceding athletes qualified by other means.
Khrennikov: “Magic did not happen. I have not received a visa to USA. I continue my way. thanks friends.”
Behind the scenes, we know that CrossFit HQ, his coaches and management team have been hard at work trying to make this happen. Unfortunately for the second straight year he’ll be barred from competing at the CrossFit Games.
However, Russia’s fittest athlete, Alexandr Ilin, was reported by Sputnik News to have secured a visa to travel and compete in Madison.
Section 3.01 of the CrossFit Games rulebook states: “Each Sanctionals competition will send one man, one woman and one team to the Games.”
“If a winner of one of the Sanctionals earns a spot to compete at the Games via another route, the second-place athlete at that Sanctionals competition will earn an invitation to the Games. This process will repeat if the second-place finisher has earned a spot at the Games, and so on.”
The only exception to this is the CrossFit Italian Showdown, which did not have a team competition this year. That’s why only 14 teams are competing.
This means the invite would jump down to 8th placed Connor Duddy.
Streat Hoerner (6th) qualified via the Open.
Jason Smith (7th) was South Africa’s national champion.
Caffeine and Kilos Named Official Coffee of USA Weightlifting
On Tuesday, Caffeine and Kilos announced they’ll be brewing up a strong cup of Joe as the new official Coffee of USA Weightlifting. The six-year-old Sacramento-based company inked an 18-month deal that will put the brand, and their coffee, at many of the national weightlifting events across the United States. They will also be the presenting sponsor of a series of USAW online competitions.
“We’re proud to be an official part of USA Weightlifting,” said Caffeine and Kilos co-founder Dean Saddoris. “Since C&K launched in 2013, we have sponsored dozens of individual athletes in weightlifting, CrossFit, powerlifting, MMA, and general fitness competitions. It’s especially gratifying to now be officially recognized as a key component in the sport of weightlifting.”
Stop by and say hello.
More than just a coffee company, Caffeine and Kilos has been a CrossFit mainstay for years with booths at Regionals and the CrossFit Games. Their apparel and lifestyle brand has been popular with top Games athletes and Olympic Weightlifters and they’ll be selling coffee with 50% more caffeine again in Madison this summer.
C&K also runs a yearly USAW sanctioned event called The Caffeine and Kilos Invitational. This year it’ll be September 22.

— “This past Saturday, I went to a CrossFit gym and tried a free session. It was hard. It was nauseating. It was an hour of my life where I felt physically weak, but emotionally strong and it left me feeling that regardless of my imperfections and limitations right now if I keep it up, I will get better.
— “Tomorrow, I go for my first official work out. It will be a one on one with a trainer who can help me stay on track, set attainable goals, and help me tone up this old body. After that, I will be going three times a week. I am both excited and scared.”
Camille Leblanc-Bazinet Launches Training Program — Camille Leblanc-Bazinet has launched her new training program, Féroce, designed to help people of all fitness levels, and in any gym. Morning Chalk Up readers can get a 10% discount with code “MORNINGCHALKUP”.
— Camille Leblanc-Baazineton why she started Féroce: While training in a “club gym” while nursing an injury, she looked around and saw others in the gym. “They don’t know what to do, everyone is going kind of slow, everyone is on their phone, and it just felt like no one wanted to attract any attention to them, and were just kind of there feeling like, if I spend an hour here, I’ve trained and it’s gonna happen and it just broke my heart.”
On June 27, an Instagram follower messaged The Barbell Physio director Dr. Zachary Long with a curious message: “Do you also run rxmindset? They seem to be reposting some of your content and their programs looked a bit similar.”
Long and co-owner Pamela Gagnon, who is also head coach of The Gymnastics Course, began investigating a potential copycat program but were unable to find RxMindset on Instagram.
“When I tried looking them up via my Instagram TheBarbellPhysio I could not find them but could from the other accounts I ran,” Long told us.
This is usually a sign that a user has blocked you from viewing their content or even showing up in an Instagram search. However, when Barbell Physio staff were able to purchase the two questionable programs they noticed nearly identical programs being resold on RxMindset’s website.
The Morning Chalk Up was granted access to both programs in order to verify this.
After obtaining what Barbell Physio determined was sufficient evidence they sent a cease and desist letter to Richard Hernandez, who’s position at the company is unclear but is listed as associated via Instagram, demanding that all materials be removed from RxMindset by July 10, 2019. Morning Chalk Up can confirm that RxMindset has removed both programs — The First Pull-Up Program and Overhead Squat Overhaul — and their Instagram has been overhauled to remove any reposted videos of either Long or Gagnon.
Morning Chalk Up reached out to Hernandez for explanation about the duplicate programs but received no reply.
Hernandez is also listed as a coach at Pacifico CrossFit in Oceanside, CA. Attempts to verify business ownership for both RxMindset and Pacifico CrossFit with the California Secretary of State’s office were unsuccessful.
