QUOTE OF THE DAY

A Thief Amongst Fundraising Friends
|
Background.
On Saturday, June 30, a thirty-year-old man named Timmy Kinner walked into a birthday party for three-year-old and began stabbing people. Before he was taken into police custody, he had stabbed six people, three of them children between the ages of three and twelve. Ruya Kadir, the three-year-old birthday girl, did not survive the attack.
That’s terrible.
Horrible. The community came together to mourn the victims and support the survivors. One of these groups is CrossFit Boise who held a “WOD for Wylie” on Saturday, July 21st. They invited the entire community and lined up sponsors like Lululemon and made gift baskets to be raffled as well as prize money for best male and best female athletes. The day was set to be a great success.
And just like that…
About 40 to 60 people turned out. CrossFit Boise had suggested a donation of $10, but many people contributed more. “People were just throwing cash into this jar,” Boise CrossFit owner Andy Rosenbaum said. At 10:45 a.m., everyone crowded into another part of the gym to watch the finalists compete. During that 15-minute window, someone helped themselves to the donation jar.
No way!
That’s right. Someone stole the donations to a three-year-old stabbing victims family. CrossFit Boise filed a police report and let the public know that, despite being a felony, if the money was returned to the gym there would be no questions asked. They just want the cash back.
But no one returned the funds. Now, the community is rallying again. Rosenbaum said he has received countless donations and offers of help from his members, the surrounding businesses, and people that heard about the crime. A Max Giving page has been set up for Wod for Wylie.

What to tell your friend who thinks she needs to shake up her morning routine…
Worth a try. Recent studies show that there are several benefits to being an early bird such as more time to exercise, choosing a healthier breakfast, and being more efficient in time management throughout the day. Besides, it means you won’t have to say no to HH with your besties tomorrow.
And since you’ll already be up…
Morning Chalk Up decided it was time to shake things up on our end too. Have you seen our new website? Now you can start your morning with a fresh cup of fitness and a fresh new website too. Pro tip: share it with a friend.

“What’s in Store as CrossFit Games Returns to Old Format?” by Morning Chalk Up
Day 1 is typically reserved for lengthy off-site outdoor endurance events which test athletes aerobic capacity but also take a considerable toll.
In years past there have been multiple ocean swims, a triathlon around Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base, half marathon row, 7K trail run at the Aromas ranch and a 3-mile run plus swim, just to name a few. Programming these events mid-week makes sense for the fan festival experience too. They’re long, difficult or impossible to spectate, and the crowds are thinnest on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
In a teaser video posted back in June, Castro let on that “we’ve prepared the best test that we’ve ever done, that we’ve ever created. I’m looking forward to athletes arriving and being dealt a day one that will go down in the Games history books for its difficulty and challenge.”
So far, we know that Event 1 involves a road bike, which suggests a lengthy 10+ mile bike, and Event 2 will be 30 muscle-ups for time. Top athletes will do this workout unbroken and the time cap is unlikely to be much longer than 5:00 minutes. In the Fall of 2017, Cody Anderson did 30 muscle-ups with a weight vest in 3:06.
A long event 1 followed by a short Event 2 suggests a lingering Event 3 behind the curtain that will leave athletes looking for a rest day on Thursday.
