Breaking: Mat Fraser, The Buttery Bros Team Up For New Supplement Company
Fans of Mat Fraser and the Buttery Bros are in for a treat this summer, as a new partnership was announced Sunday, forming a new supplement and nutrition company set to formally launch in July of this year.
The company, titled Podium Nutrition, will launch with hydration, pre-workout, and whey protein supplements in multiple flavor offerings, expanding to include additional functional food and beverage options in the future.
One big thing: This first-of-its-kind partnership brings an interesting two-pronged approach as far as insight and expertise are concerned to a highly competitive supplement industry and continuously evolving CrossFit community.
Mat Fraser is the most dominant athlete in CrossFit history, and is notoriously meticulous in his approach to training and the subsequent lifestyle surrounding an elite athlete in the sport.
In winning a record five consecutive titles not only has he built a comprehensive understanding of the demands of the sport, but also a roadmap on how to best overcome those demands.

Now that you’re breathing better, let us tell you about AIRWAAV.

Because, let’s be real, when you’re trying to remember if its the round of 12 or 15, the last thing on your mind is if your lower jaw is in an optimal position for breathing.

The study, which involved almost 50,000 Californians who developed Covid, found that those who had been the most active before falling ill were the least likely to be hospitalized or die as a result of their illness.
From the article: “‘Being sedentary was the greatest risk factor’ for severe illness, ‘unless someone was elderly or an organ recipient,’ says Dr. Robert Sallis, a family and sports medicine doctor at the Kaiser Permanente Fontana Medical Center, who led the new study. And while ‘you can’t do anything about those other risks,’ he says, ‘you can exercise.'”

Quarterfinal Video Review Concludes Today, Invites Out Next But Selection Process Unknown
CrossFit staff will conclude the Quarterfinal review process today according to the official CrossFit Games rulebook, the final step before Semifinal invitations are emailed out.
One big thing: For athletes in North America and Europe, it’s still unclear how athletes will be seeded and whether athletes’ preferences will be taken into account. The rulebook doesn’t outline specifics and a request for clarification sent to CrossFit wasn’t responded to by publication.
During a March athlete briefing, CrossFit officials were vague on the topic outlining three potential scenarios. North American and European Semifinal organizers couldn’t offer any more insight or direction as to how it’ll play out.
Neither could one CrossFit Games athlete, who is also a member of the Professional Fitness Athletes Association.
Who advances to Semifinals? While the status of each semifinal event is still in flux, there are currently 10 scheduled semifinals, one last-chance online qualifier and the potential of another catch-all online event for athletes unable to travel to in-person competitions (think New Zealanders to Torian in Australia or Sam Briggs to Europe). The qualification cut off is as follows for each continent:
North America: Top 120 advance to one of four events.
Europe: Top 60 advance to one of two events.
Oceania, Asia, Africa and South America: Top 30 advance to one event per continent.
Sibling Rivalry: The 2021 CrossFit Semifinals Will Be a Family Affair For Some
The Individual Quarterfinals are over, and CrossFit athletes are preparing for the next part of the season — Semifinals. This final step is the only hurdle remaining between them and a spot at the CrossFit Games, and there will be several family members trying to reach Madison together.
Why this matters: Having athletes from the same family compete at Regionals or the CrossFit Games is nothing new. The Anderson brothers — Alex, Jacob, and ZA — are members of the “fittest family” after multiple Games appearances. Jacob and Alex competed together in 2016 while ZA competed in 2013. Their father, Steve, won the Masters 55-59 division in 2011. The 2021 season, however, features a wider variety of related high-level athletes that could compete together on the biggest stage.
Quarterfinals’ Four-Rep Max Shows Shrinking Strength Gap Across Continents
For the first time in CrossFit Games history, athletes continued their season after the Open in the comfort of their own gyms. Competing to see who would crack the top percentiles in each continent and move on to the Semifinals.
One big thing: Not only was this season unique in the fact that athletes competed in quarterfinals for the first time post-Open, but it was also unique in that the athletes also competed only against other athletes across their own continent.
This new, unique setup provides an opportunity to compare continents to each other and the results are not what one might think.
Out of all the workouts of the Quarterfinals, the four-rep max front squat provided the most direct way to compare raw strength across the continents.
While North America and Europe are largely considered to be powerhouses of the sport, the four-rep max front squat showcased some incredibly strong athletes from some of the continents typically considered less competitive.
In fact, the heaviest female front squat in the world came from South African Quarterfinalist Lee Keyrouz who front squatted 315 pounds, 10 pounds higher than the next heaviest front squat from Morgan Reynolds in North America.
