QUOTE OF THE DAY
“What is defeat? Nothing but education, nothing but the first step to getting better.” – Vince Lombardi
THE COMPETITION FLOOR
Becoming the Fittest…Again — Athlete Daily talks to Ben Bergeron, coach of 2x Fittest Woman Katrin Davidsdottir and Fittest Man Mathew Fraser, andAnnie Thorisdottir about what changed with Katrin since she failed to qualify for the Games in 2014. “I think what separates her more than anyone else is her willingness to suffer,” Ben Bergeron said. “Not just her willingness but her want. She’s like a sled dog without a sled, they are sitting outside the huts just yelping and wanting to do work. When she’s not doing work, she’s not happy.”
“She got mentally a lot tougher from missing that year,” Annie Thorisdottir said. “When something that devastating happens, either you are going to break down and give up or you are going to come back stronger.”
Abbott, Mathews, Percevecz, Eramo Reflecting on the Games — Best line comes from Carleen Mathews: “On the floor I want to rip everyone’s throat out. But the second it’s over, I’m your biggest fan, and want you to succeed as much as I want to succeed. There’s a vulnerability from suffering and it creates a bond that some will have forever. I’ve become closer with more girls this year, and every year more competitions and more experiences bring us all closer. It’s an amazing experience.”
Fittest Fan — Went to Calvin Keyser-Allen, who beat out 2 other men and 3 women in the Tennis Stadium to claim the title. The workout: a variation of the final workout for the individual athletes – 3 – 2 – 1 pegboard ascents, 21 – 15 – 9 thrusters (95/65).
Michele Letendre, on Her Final Games — “Seeing the ranch was such a treat, I’ll always remember watching the CrossFit Games for the first time and seeing people do what I thought was impossible…This years Games accomplishments are as follows: 1. I pr’d my deadlift by 30 lbs, 2. I finished every event and 3 I stayed positive the entire way through and felt better as days went on despite a cold…On to the next challenge, whatever that may be…”
What the Elite Athletes Are Up To — Brooke Wells is up in Sacramento with Mark Bell and eating some sushi. Christy Adkins ate some ice cream. Jamie Hagiya is cleaning toilets. Annie Thorisdottir took a helicopter ride over the Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon. Anna Tunnicliffe is coaching at the Radial Youth World (sailing) Champs in Ireland.
