One stop Halo Top

Good morning and welcome to the Morning Chalk Up. Today’s edition is fueled by Paleoethics, helping you achieve your health and fitness goals by delivering an exceptionally nutritious range of high-performance supplements suitable for any lifestyle.

A big thanks to Red Wolf CrossFit for having us along to hike the Three T’s last weekend. It was a blast getting outside and using our fitness.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Make friends with pain and you’ll never walk alone.” — Ken Chlouber

ONE STOP HALO TOP

The story.

Introduced Halo Top: a macro-counter’s dream ice cream. It’s low-sugar, low-calorie, and high-protein. Oh, and they recently released a dairy-free version.

What more could we ask for? How about a good old fashioned brick and mortar shop to grab a cone like we did as kids? Well it’s here. It’s real.

If you’re in LA, anyway.

Details please.

Last week, Halo Top Scoop Shop opened its doors. Not only are they serving up scoops of your fave Halo Top flavors, but they’re making concoctions like ice cream sandwiches and ice cream TACOS.

Tacos? Who cares, just roll with it.

Cross your fingers.

While they currently only have one location, something tells us it’s going to be a huge hit. Keep your eyes peeled and fingers crossed for more locations. Or you could just book a flight to LA and escape the coming cold. Especially if you’re in Mt. Washington, NH where it’s forecasted to be a whole 5 degrees this week.

Your call, but in the meantime, continue rounding out those macros, guilt-free.

CHALK UP IN 2 MINUTES

Roundup — Patrick Vellner joins the Wodproof App team. A 57-year-old mom deadlifts 388 pounds easier than your CrossFit coach. Cody Anderson hits a 396 pound front squat PR. The International Weightlifting Federation released the final lifter list for IWF Worlds…most notable name missing, Olympian Morghan King, who has transitioned from 48kg to 53kg weight class. Mia
Akerlund
hit a 257 pound clean and jerk to take gold and qualify for Europeans 2018.

Under the Radar — Noah Ohlsen has officially relocated from Miami, FL to Alpharetta, GA, just north of Atlanta. He’ll still be competing in the Atlantic Regional.

Dave Castro announced that Dan Bailey will be the fourth and final male runner on his team for the Ragnar Relay.

Tasia Percevecz is still moving to Mayhem — “My journey to Tennessee is happening soon…I am beyond grateful for the amazing people that have surrounded me. I am overwhelmed with joy thinking about my family at [CrossFit Free]…[Brandon Petersen] You have truly changed my life. I came to you with nothing but a crazy dream and you helped me make it happen…From waking up at the crack of dawn to open the gym for me, to helping me with my taxes, to sitting with me when I cried… you’ve been there for it all. Not only are you the best coach I’ve ever had, but also one of my best friends.”

COFFEE BREAK CONVERSATIONS

What to tell your hubby who’s about to dust off his Santa suit…

HO HO HO. Fit One Foundation is putting together a CrossFit Kids competition for kids aged 7 to 17. The Ho Ho Ho Throwdown will raise money for Fit One, a local non-profit which brings nutrition education and fitness to the low-income community through free CrossFit classes for kids and adults in the Riverside, CA area. So far, Fit One has provided more than 4,300 free classes, totaling more than 28,000 individually logged WODs, which is pretty epic.

What to tell your friend who’s putting away her summer clothes…

Don’t pack away your swimsuit. Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel in Waimea, HI is getting a $46 million face lift due March 2018, which is set to include a CrossFit “studio.” Whatever that means exactly, but we’re eager to investigte. Work trip!

What to tell your judge who’s taking things a little too seriously…

No rep. Being a referee or judge is perhaps the most vilified job on the planet — seriously. Unless you’re this guy, who basically wins the referee of the year award.

THINGS TO…

HEAR: Making Wine with Margaux

Did you know that Margaux Alvarez owns a vineyard and makes her own wine? We’re still shocked that people don’t know this, but we digress. Margaux brings over a bottle of wine to chat with Girls Gone WOD about the wine making process and how she got into that, while still totally being a CrossFit Games bad ass.

IN VINO VERITAS.

KNOW: Are you getting enough protein?

Our bodies need proteins to perform. These critical molecules contribute to a variety of bodily functions, from building and repairing tissue, to generating enzymes and hormones, to growing bone, muscle, and cartilage. As such, when our bodies fail to get the protein they need, the side effects can be diverse and dire.

COULD YOU BE PROTEIN DEFICIENT?

EAT: Paleo Orange Kissed Loaf with Dark Chocolate Glaze

Holy mackerel, Christmas came early with this absolutely delish recipe from Ambitious Kitchen. Gluten free paleo orange bread kissed and infused with fresh orange juice and zest, then covered with dark chocolate for the ultimate treat. This bread will blow you away by how good it is.

CHALK UP READS

“Letter to My Younger Self” by Andrea Montalvo, Morning Chalk Up

Dear 19-year-old Andrea,

You love your friends, and you miss your parents. It’s hard for you to be away for college and you wonder if you should have stayed closer. Don’t worry; the homesickness will pass. Grand Junction will become your new home, and your track team will become your sisters.

When that happens, you’ll be tempted to stay up late, become nocturnal, go to parties all the time to show people you’re not as sheltered as you know you are, but trust your instincts. You will be intimidated by the people that seem to know how they’ll use their major, but don’t worry you won’t have a conventional job. You won’t be sitting behind a desk, and you won’t be working in research in a Vo2 Max lab as you think. You’ll instead be creative with how you make money, and your passion for training will spill out all over the internet in a few years when you discover CrossFit, YouTube, and Instagram.

Your love interests right now are only “for right now.” You won’t marry any of them, so it’s time to move on sister. The love of your life is playing soccer in college across the United States on the East Coast. You won’t meet him until you’re way too freaking old so cool your jets, skip dating, and just build amazing female friendships and give that love to your family.
