Viva La France — Julian Festor of Reebok CrossFit Louvre on how 19.1 went down in Paris: “The goal was to bring together athletes from different well know boxes close or in Paris. The location was near the bridge Pont Neuf, which is the oldest bridge in France built 450 years ago. The riverside of the Seine is where the first CrossFitters in paris started back in 2011 which is why we invited one athlete from each of the boxes founded by people who were there in 2011 to compete.”

Reebok on the Nike Blowout — Zion Williams, a forward for Duke University, injured his knee when his Nike shoe ripped apart less than one-minute into the game. Tal Short, Sr. Product Manager for Reebok, responded to the blow out of their competitor’s shoe. “This is my biggest fear when building product. We test the Nano like crazy – but I spend the week of the CrossFit Games sweating through each workout hoping the shoes DON’T get noticed or talked about. The conversation should always be about the athletes. Our goal is never to be the story. Our goal is to build shoes that can perform up to the extreme levels that top tier athletes demand. It’s a fun challenge but always a risk.”

Zen Planner Makes Inclusive Changes — Zen Planner, an athlete management suite used by affiliates, released two new product enhancements related to a broader effort to support the transgender inclusion movement: A ‘Not Specified’ gender option for building out athlete profiles and the ability to display a gender-neutral leaderboard.
…which is similar to what Wodify did last week.
— From Will Lanier, Executive Director of The OUT Foundation, “Many companies talk of inclusion, but Zen Planner has put their money where their mouth is. Developing a gender-free athlete experience helps remove barriers that can make transgender and gender non-conforming athletes feel unwelcome in fitness. That’s why we’re proud to stand with Zen Planner as they launch their new ‘Not Specified Gender’ option.”
— Why now? Last August during the 2018 CrossFit Games in Madison, WI Greg Glassman announced that athletes will now be able to compete in whichever gender they identiy in. Broadening the leaderboard options in gyms is the first step to incorporating this change across the board.
