O2 Rewards the CrossFit Community with Online Gift Cards for #StayForMay Campaign

O2 Rewards the CrossFit Community with Online Gift Cards for #StayForMay Campaign

If your gym participated in O2’s Community Coalition initiative and you kept your membership at that gym during the month of May you’re about to be rewarded for your loyalty courtesy of O2, Born Primitive, Bear Komplex and Puori. As part of the #StayForMay campaign, gym members will receive a $25 online gift card for each of those brands.

One big thing: O2 estimates that they will hand out close to $26 million dollars worth of online gift cards to the affiliates that signed up for their Community Coalition initiative that started back on May 18.

  • 2,633 gyms signed up for the initiative; each one of those participating gyms were automatically signed up for the #StayForMay campaign.
  • The #StayForMay campaign gave gym owners an incentive to offer their members to keep their membership active throughout the whole month of May.
  • That incentive comes in the form of four $25 online gift cards from O2 and their partners in the campaign, Born Primitive, Bear Komplex and Puori.
  • Participating gym owners will be emailed a special link that they can share with those members that kept their membership through the month of May. That link will allow those members exclusive access to the online gift cards.
  • Gym members can check to see if their gym participated in the campaign by accessing the Community Coalition website.

What they’re saying: The Morning Chalk Up reached out to a few of the over 2,600 gym owners to get their take on the promotion and how it helped them with membership retention.

  • “I’ve personally been drinking O2 for a while now,” said Mike Corcoran, owner of CrossFit Mill Street. “Both to fuel my workout recovery and to prevent hangovers, ha. During the promotion, I was able to test the O2 plus CBD which is now my new favorite drink by far.”
  • “What a pleasant act of support and kindness to be able to offer our members a token of thanks for staying with their membership during this quarantine,” said Katie Hanger, owner of CrossFit Parable. “The gift was two-fold. One, to feel backed by such an honest and loved company (we drink O2 at our gym daily) and two, to be able to give something to our members as a way of saying, ‘I see you. Thank you.”
  • “My members are excited to take advantage of the #StayForMay gift cards,” added Corcoran. “Many have reached out saying they’ll be getting new Bear Komplex grips to make their re-entry to the gym and pull-ups, more comfortable.”

Report: Monterey County Moves Forward with Re-opening, Paves Way for the Games

Report: Monterey County Moves Forward with Re-opening, Paves Way for the Games

Last week we reported on some good news coming from the state of California when Governor Gavin Newsom revealed that professional sporting events could potentially resume as early as June 1 if certain criteria were met. At the time, it was the single biggest positive development in the Games chances of happening since the pandemic hit, and now more developments have cleared a path forward for the Games and their pursuit of hosting a competition at the CrossFit Ranch.

One big thing: The Monterey County Board of Supervisors unanimously agreed this past Tuesday to send a variance attestation report to the state Department of Public Health highlighting the county’s readiness to move forward with the state’s expanded stage two reopening phase. The report was officially sent later that same day.

  • California currently has a 4 stage plan, and under stage two, a host of new operations and businesses would be reopened including retail and malls, swap meets, places of worship, manufacturing and logistics, office spaces, restaurants, schools, child care, hair salons and barbershops, and other businesses that follow updated safety protocols.
  • County Health Officer Dr. Ed Moreno detailed in the attestation report that the county has met the criteria for an expedited reopening which includes infection rates of fewer than 25 new cases per 100,000 residents and less than 20 hospitalizations in any single day over the last 14 days.

This is huge: The CrossFit Ranch is zoned in unincorporated city limits of Salinas, CA, along with a mailing address in the city of Aromas, which sits within the boundaries of Monterey County. The physical location borders both Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties and the vast majority of the county landscape is occupied by sparsely populated hill country, agriculture, and rural coastline.

Crispy Turmeric-and-Pepper-Spiced Chicken Wings

The cool part about these wings is the technique: Starting them in a cold oven allows the fat to render slowly so they get super-duper crispy. But the real sell lies in the flavor, a stellar mix of turmeric, black pepper, ginger, and garlic. Save that infused fat after baking, and use it to punch up stir-fries or crispy eggs.

TRIVIA

Congratulations to Bradley F., who was the first to correctly answer how many Opens had six scored Workouts. The correct answer was Three (2011, 2015, and 2018). Note, this was Bradley’s second time to be the first to correctly answered a trivia question.

  • Today’s question: Who are the only parent and child to have both won a CrossFit Games Championship?
