WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU HIT THE BOX

Emily Bridgers joins the Victory Grip team. Alison Scudds joins the formula O2 team. CrossFit HQ releases a new workshop: CrossFit Dumbbells. After going to the doctor on Tuesday, Jenn Smith discovered she’d been competing with a broken 3rd metatarsal in her foot all weekend at Central Regionals.

Something to try during break time today…What to do if you want to find out if you’re a supple leopard.

REGIONALS REFLECTIONS

Lauren Fisher on Qualifying One Spot Ahead of Her BFF…“So many mixed emotions qualifying. This girl is like a little sister to me and wish we could both make it somehow. She deserves to go the Games just as much as I do. Every day in the gym we go through so many ups and downs together. I’m really lucky to have a training partner like her…”

WHAT TO TELL YOUR FRIEND WHO REFUSES TO PUT DOWN THE POTATO CHIPS…

A new study just came out concluding that high-intensity training like CrossFit may help adults with type 2 diabetes improve their ability to store and secrete insulin. Twelve adults got their butts kicked for 6 weeks by a CrossFit coach and the folks in the lab coats analyzed the stuff going on inside. Chalk one up for the science community for finally saying something other than you’ll get injured if you do CrossFit.

“I didn’t realize until today how much I am growing as a person, as a CrossFitter…”
“Four and a half years ago, I was almost bed ridden…diagnosed with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, degenerative discs in my back and arthritis in my spine and all over my body! I met this sweet lady Carmen, who was part of Fort Harrod CrossFit in Harrodsburg, KY. She encouraged me and told me the people would be super accepting. Well I decided when I saw that scale at 300 it was time and it was up to me.

“The people at Fort Harrod CrossFit were so encouraging and I never knew that was possible. They constantly cheer me on and tell me ‘you can do it!’ Then there are days like today! I did the MURPH WOD, it has such a huge meaning to me because it’s something bigger than me! I didn’t realize until today how much I am growing as a person, as a CrossFitter…I can do anything that I put my mind too and so can anyone else…It’s the people that make my journey so amazing!!” — Jody Durham

“8 Things You Need to Know about CrossFit” by Stacie Tovar

Call it a fitness program, call it a sport. Whatever you call it, don’t call it a trend.

CrossFit is constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity, meant to help people become more physically prepared for anything. And it works.

Maybe you’ve been thinking about trying it, maybe you’ve judged it or maybe you’ve never heard of it. Regardless, here are eight things I wish everybody knew about CrossFit, the sport I have grown to love over the past nine years.

CrossFit can be modified and scaled. We can take any workout or movement and tailor it to accommodate your fitness level. At CrossFit Omaha our youngest member is 13, and our oldest is 64. Our group classes consist of all walks of life: teachers, doctors, laborers, nurses, students, business owners, law enforcement personnel, military members, and yes, even world-class athletes. We all do the same workouts together to varying degrees of difficulty.
