Ro Ro Ro

Good morning and welcome to the Morning Chalk Up. Today’s edition was chalked up while hoping Santa brings us an early Christmas present in the form of a snatch PR.

CORRECTION: Yesterday, we misreported a fact about the Open. There has been a repeat every Open except for the first Open in 2011. Here are all the repeats to date:

12.5 = 11.6
13.3 = 12.4
14.1 = 11.1
15.2 = 14.2
16.5 = 15.5

QUOTE OF THE DAY

17.3 LIVE

THE DETAILS.

WHAT HAPPENED LAST NIGHT?

Mathew Fraser, Scott Panchik and Cole Sager got together for some fast exercising. All three were just a couple reps apart through the 135 pound snatches. Then it was Scott and Mat neck and neck until the end of 245 pounds. As expected, Fraser took the win finishing in 17:48. You can rewatch the whole event here.

Rory McKernan finally got his dubya, which brings the 2017 series to 2-1. It’s gonna be tough, but Rory is still in the running. #TeamRo

ANYTHING ELSE?

Rich Froning snatching 265 pounds during 17.3 in slow motion. And Jenn Jones once again went live on Facebook. Mat Fraser’s warm-up of choice last night was dumbbell thrusters…just in case.

HEAR: The Open Makes You Crazy

Every year we say it, we mean it, but somehow we still get caught up in it…The Open Crazies. The Open is great because it gives you a reason to push yourself beyond the norm, but it can also give you unrealistic expectations. Not only that, but suddenly you are literally looking at a list of scores from everyone else in the world, and it’s impossible not to compare. This week Girls Gone WOD talks about getting caught up in this trap, how you can stay away from it, and what to tell yourself if you start having stress dreams about Dave Castro.

CHALK UP AFFILIATES

Kym Butcher’s wrote down a goal: in 2017, do 10,000 burpees and donate one of her kidneys to someone who needed it. On February 24, she was hit by a suspected drunk driver. One of the other passengers was killed and she’s still in the hospital. This weekend, CrossFit LTP in Arvada, CO is holding a fundraiser and silent auction to raise money for Butcher, who is a single mother to her young daughter.
